Charming a bear?

I know there are a lot of threads this subject and I have read them. However, is it possible to do it without chosing a nec as primary or secondary?

Just at wizards folly I got the charm bar about 50% done alone, he got stuck on a rock with one of those fire things blocking him and he was trying to run somewhere.

If I had someone with me shouldn't it be possible?

From what I understand as long as you (or someone with you) can knock him down to prevent him using his break charm skill he's all yours. I'd still rather have my big chicken, though.

I know he can be charmed but everyone I've heard of charming had to have faintheartedness (necro)

I'm content with Cuddles the dune lizard.

:P I just want to charm it for novelty.

I could lie and say I did it but it just wouldn't be the same.
