Scandinavian beta event; hoax, or real deal?

Hrm...I dunno. I want to say hoax, since I went to http://www.softxchange.dk and looked up guild wars. They only have the typical beta event info listed there, nothing about a 'special' session. Though since I couldn't translate the page I was working merely off the fact the dates seemed to be in english >_>

If it isnt a joke though...that totally sucks!

the publication date isn't April 1st... so it is probably not a joke; although, that doesn't mean it is legit

Yep, this is a genuine event for those who preordered from those two sites. I'd just like to reiterate that these customers are not receiving anything extra.

Well Alex, as a norwegian, I can say that in this particular case I think ANet Screwed up, not spreading the news.

I for example, would probably have bought the pre order via scandinavia instead of the US if I knew. Does it matter, you may say? Anet gets the sale anyway? Well, I think the game is not so hyped in Europe, and these smaller events probably will not be as attractive as the others, if only a few thousand log on.

One more thing; Why only Sweden and Denmark. As many ppl playing games in Norway as in Denmark.. Man...


Enough said, just a small gripe.

Actually, I believe that the only people who will have access to the added BWE are those with keys specifically sold by Webhallen and Softxchange. From what I hear, the preorder keys that were mailed out by those two companies had glitches, and so the customers who got them in time for the BWE couldn't actually play, as the keys weren't working.

This BWE would give them the BWE that they missed because of that key glitch. So.. from what I hear, and from what Alex has said, the only ones allowed into this BWE would be those same people who had the faulty keys, and so couldn't get into the last BWE. Nothing added, nothing lost. This just rightfully gives those poor folks the BWE that we all luckily had.

In this way, I think ANet and NCSoft did right in not spreading the word earlier. This event isn't for people taking advantage of this and running to those companies and buying the preorders just for some extra playing time. As far as I know, -all- the keys from those two companies might be allowed for this added BWE. This means that the earlier they announce this, the more people there will be trying to madly gain one of those preorders for that BWE alone. So.. in order to be as fair as possible, the announcement has to be late enough that people won't have enough time to take advantage of this. Those who really do deserve this BWE (because they sat out on the last one, even though they had a key) will have it, without a flood of others gaining an extra BWE from this opportunity.

This seems more along the lines of giving the poor customers who were barred from the BWE last time the same amount of playing time that everyone else with a key got. I strongly strongly doubt they're trying to make a profit from this, and this just reaffirms my belief in ANet -- that they care enough to go through all the trouble of giving a certain group what they missed through no fault of their (the customers') own.

lol... i wish you could get a pre-order from every place in the world. i may not be able to speak to them, but... whatever... hehe

It does seem like a bit of a bad decision to only allow a select group of people on.

This is purely speculation, but it seems.....

Those that can get on will have a harder time finding groups, especially late at night. This will be true, I had a hard time grouping up late at night when EVERYONE was online.

As long as they are firing up the servers for mass use they ought to work out a few more bugs. This would give A.Net a chance to clear out the bug report forums and suggestion forums and let the customer base have another chance to give input. This is scetchy knowing the number of posts in the suggestion thread, and yes I have read them ALL.

What if its a joke on us?

Like if they were having the weekend world wide but we think its only the other ppls.

It would be an even meaner joke IF they treid logging in and a window popped up sayin somthing like APRIL FOOLS!

well i think HOAX! i went to the website like softexchange, and it said

"Forudbestil nu og modtag en eksklusiv ”beta access key”, der dig adgang til Guild Wars Beta Weekend arrangementet denX 18. til 20. marts og igen 15. til 17. april. "

my transilation, is it says that you get a beta access key that you can use on the scedualed beta weekend events. 18-20 march, and the 15-17 of april. it does not mention any where about an extra day. i would expect it to pop up in blinking letters if this was one of 2 sites that could have it. and it is poor marketing by the company to not put it in blinking letters.

even tho i trust alex...he might be a pranksta....but it would be mean to the scandanavion people not to have it. but then again oviously they dont speak english ^ as it shows above.

Hi, Guys,

I wanted to explain about the Scandinavian Weekend. What happened, quite honestly, was that we messed up. The keys created for Scandinavian distribution were not activated, and those good folks in Denmark, Finland, Normay or Sweden who preordered through the official Scandinavian distributors/retailers were "locked out" of the last BWE. So in order to make it up to them, we're giving access to the game to those who have preordered from those countries through the designated retailers.

We hope that you'll understand our greatest goal would have been to have everyone participating in the March 18th BWE. But failing that, we're determined to set things right and this is how we're undertaking it.

This only seems fair, it's nice that Arena.net is trying to make up for their mistake. Have fun all you Scandinavians.

Gaile and ArenaNet once again makes me happy and give more reasons why ArenaNet should be the developer of the year.

That's all that can be said seeing Allen and Gaile speaking for the entire staff of people involved in GuildWars to coordinate both admitting the wrong and making certain it is swiftly rectified, while making sure the rest of us are well informed so we feel no misgivings about it.
