Why cant we have signatures on these forums?

The admins decided against them due to bandwidth considerations I believe.

Actually, it wasn't the bandwidth, it was the load on the servers, due to vBulletin's fairly brain-damaged implementation of sigs.

The forums load faster and are cleaner without sigs. That is all that matters.

And Inde added the profile fields on the left for us, Character Name, etc. There is really no reason to have a signature, if you want a quote you can put it in your profile. If you want a picture, you can put it in your avatar or personal picture in your profile.

I think that text-only signatures wouldn't hurt. Who's with me?

I don't think it would hurt, but i've kind of gotten used to not having to scroll through the endless signatures of quotes and lyrics and character information to get to the actual posts.

Actually, text only signatures would be every bit as bad. The problem is the additional queries to the SQL database, not additional URLs (which are loaded from other locations anyhow and thus put no stress on the server at all).

You can only have a max of 4 lines or a 400x150pixel image with 2 lines of text. Otherwise it will be a violation on the forums Try doing that, but also implement sigs without Flash
