Rune Clarification Question

I hope this hasnt already been adressed but I could not find it in my search.

I have a question about runes. Can you only apply one minor, major, and superior rune of each type to your entire set of armor?

For example if I have two minor runes of swordman ship, each give +1 to swordsmanship. If I put one in my gloves and one in my boots am I getting +1 or +2? If I am only getting +1 and wanted more then I would have to get a major rune of swordsmanship to give +3?

Subquestion:
If the above is true, is it only true of runes that influence attributes or does it apply to all runes.

For example minor rune of absorption, if I wanted more absorption would I need a major rune of absorption and eventually superior? Or another example, minor rune of vigor, if I wanted more than +10 to health could I use another minor rune of vigor on another peice of armor or do I need a major?

Thanks in advance for the help.

Runes will not stack with ANY other runes of the same attribute type (fire, hammer, etc.) regardless of level (minor, major, superior). If you have a minor sword and a major sword, you'll get the benefit of the higher rune and the lesser is ignored. These runes WILL stack with the bonus from head gear, though. So it's possible to have a sword rune and a helm with +1 sword for up to +4 bonus to any stat.

couldn't find Rune questions using search?!?! that seems to be one of the most commonly asked questions

Runes do not 'stack' in this way. If you apply 2 minor sword runes, you do not receive +2 sword. If you really wanted to receive +2 to your sword, you could accomplish this by applying one rune (+1) and then purchasing/collecting a piece of armor which had an embedded +1 sword in it.

Same applies for your vigor question.. if you have a Minor vigor (+30) and then apply a major (+40) you will only receive the +40 benefit. The minor rune is essencially wasted.

Hope that helps

Edit - I really have to learn to type faster than C-Tzar

I've almost (but not completely) given up on telling people to use the search. My head is starting to hurt from banging it against that wall.

I didnt realize this had been addressed, guess I didnt use the best keywords in the search. So pardon me for that one.

This is good infor to know I thought it was a matter of level (minor, major, and superior) I didnt realize that effectively it was a waste of time to have two sword, vigor, absorption, etc regardless of level. I will have to be more careful in the future then because with this being true i have most certainly wasted a rune or two...

Thank you.

So my next question based on this info then...Can you have two of the same level runes of different abilities. Example, superior rune of vigor, superior rune of sword or do the levels of the rune also negate each other?

Edit: in different pieces of armor

i dont think your answering his questions.

he is not talking about putting 2 runes on one piece of armor.. he is asking can you put 1 rune on your gloves and 1 rune on your boots and this will stack?

we all know that you cant put 2 runes of the same kind on one piece of armor...

I wasn't talking about two runes on one piece of armor either. Nope, doesn't change the answer.

Only one rune of any type per peace of armor. You are allowed to have as many superior runes as you like on your peaces, but the all have to be different.

Is this true for the Mesmer mask as well? Could I put a Domination rune on my mask and then another on a different piece of armor?

No, I didn't mean you could put a rune in your head/face piece, then another of the same type in other armor. You can get head/face pieces that have an inherent bonus to an attribute that is NOT a rune and will stack with a rune. But you CAN put a rune in a head/face piece that will add the rune's bonus to the head/face piece's inherent bonus, even if the rune is of the same type as the inherent bonus. But any way you slice it, you can't have more than one rune of the same type on any of your armor (well, you can put them there, but only one, the highest, will have any effect). I'm sorry if it's confusing, it's a bit of a complex system and I don't know how to explain it any easier.

Before you do, search the forums, this topic has been done to death many times including that very same test. Save yourself the rune/armor cost.
