Mo/N Question
Xeuro
I was hunting recently and a Mo/N joined our group....he kicked ass. He was able to keep us and himself healed while doing dmg (Curses etc.). So obviously these guys are good in PvE, but how bout PvP? Does anyone have any experience with them?

Yeah, in fact there is a pre made mo/n, used by i think it was fianna... or was it dw? cant remember, but it revolved around the skill offereing of blood for energy management. They basically use all healing, then one, maybe two necro skills for support. For pvp, dont have monks dishing it out as well as healing. It gets a bit messy. In pve you can get away with it since the creeps have a mex of 20 dps apparantly.

I dunno about PvP, but I deleted my Mo/Wa to start a Mo/Nec. I'm going to see how it goes.

ok cool, message me back on how that goes One thing though, I dont really care for any pre-built characters, i usually like to use my RP char, so just a thought incase u think that may give me more versitility.

Wouldn't the mesmer elite, energy drain, be much better? Doesn't cost you health, and denies the enemy of energy at the same time? All that offering has is a quicker cast time (1 sec. cast time for energy drain isn't that big of a deal) and 5s. less recharge time (15 as opposed to drain's 20). I'd pick drain over offering any day.

Energy Drain is nice but that'd require you to find a juicy target that has enough energy for you to steal. In the heat of battle, most casters will be running low anyway, so the net gain from Energy Drain may not always be maximized. Offering of blood, on the other hand, is guarenteed to give you energy unless you are too low on health.
And if enemy warriors are beating down on you anyway, casting either of them may become instant death for you...so it makes no difference if you are in such a situation.

can a Mo/N be pretty good offensivly?

Quite frankly I think Mo/E is a better combination. They can dish out more damage than a Necro secondary while still keeping themselves and everyone in the party alive.

I originally played a Mo/N because I wanted to be a smiting monk. This was before I really knew what I was doing and I quickly got disappointed. When I got the chance to change my 2ndary, I switched to E. AND I made a new char as E/Mo. I realised that as a Monk the Healing skills (vs. protection and divine favor) were the most effective. As divine favor is the primary attribute for monks, I quickly realised (but a little too late), that there really was no point in me being a monk as primary. I so regret not starting off as an E/Mo in the beginning. You get sooo much more energy as an E. So whether you want to be a pure healer or a damage dealer or even both, it's really better off to have E as your primary. That is, if you don't plan on being a protection monk.
Not only that, when you do PvP you are targeted right away (but of course you get targeted later on) which is nice too.
About the N secondary, I was really disappointed actually in the necro skills. But maybe it was just that I didn't know experiment enough with the Necor skills being that I switched to Pure monk skills quite early on.

Yes, I totally agree. I think for PvP (especially HoH, GvG) you really need to specialise your character. Either you're a defender, healer, etc, or offensive character. You have to really know your role.

If you want to be a competitive smiting monk in high level pvp, you want to go mo/w. They'll have more sustained DPS than any other class, and fall shorter than ele on spikes just barely. So long as your party can keep soft targets like a monk alive while he's on the front lines, that'll outdamage anything else.

If you're looking to go Mo/N, unless you plan on putting anything into Divine Favor go N/Mo instead. A monk primary is ALWAYS targetted first (unless there's a good mesmer), so being a N would give you longer survival time. I'm currently running a N/Mo who focuses in prot/curses/blood.

Yes. But they don't use it because it it's ELITE. They need that slot for Word of Healing (Elite) or something else.
