I have noticed a change...
Blae_FeatherArrow
I have been noticing a change in GW players for the better. Not long ago it seemed that very few people playing guild wars had the kindness to help newbies and other players of there skill alike. However while playing over the past few weeks I have noticed that many people are starting to answer questions, help with quests and be overall nicer people. I just wanted to let everyone striving to make this game better for everyone know that your efforts are not going unnoticed! Thanks for helping make this game great!

I do what I can, but I admit I'm sometimes guilty of being a little asinine.

I just get frustrated with people who ask questions when the answers are right in front of them. Like asking how to mix dye...
Jesso
So, how DO you mix it anyway ?

lol, I always try to be of help. I do my best to follow the principles of "do unto others as you wan them to do to you."

If I see someone asking a question, I try and answer it..simply because it cannot be nice to be asking a question for 5 minutes and having no-one answer you.
Just the other day, someone was standing in LA asking how to get a sigil without paying a ridiculous price for it.
I told him in a whisper, we ended up having a conversation about guilds, then I had to sign out and we added eachother to our friend lists.
Since then we've been quite good friends, all because of that one simple reply.
Edit: Aloren...VGcats pwns!

I'll help anyone I can. i mean, I may not necessarily go out of my way (I have a couple times though ), but I do what I can

I try and answer questions if I know the correct answer, but there are two things I like doing; Number one, I still have a character in pre-searing, just so I can go back there when I'm bored and take players which are new or asking for help around. The second is when I get some runes or items I don't need and no one in my guild needs I go back to Ascolon and hang around and if people ask for something that I have I'll just give it to them at no cost. Both of these give me a warm fuzzy feeling...hehehe, plus the second lets me not bother with trying to sell something at Lions Arch.

That is a good question....how do you mix dye?
I have a better question....How do you STOP from dying? hehehe
As for the point of the thread...it never hurts to "Kill them with Kindness".
Also "Pick your Battles" People that know me, know that I will help anyone, crack jokes, just have some simple fun...If see Rudeness,Sexual Harassment,etc....
They will wish I never saw/heard that. I will make it my mission to Teach them a few manners. I warped into a town the other day and right off the bat, on the chat I saw a Vulger spew of trash. I didn't care that I didn't see what was before it...that guy heard it from me in the open chat and then in a whisper.
Actually I would be willing to work as a moderator for Arenanet while playing. I would be glad to fill out an application/pass a test, whatever to fill that void. I am sure there are others that would too. The kicker is not to let the Mods abuse their authority.
But that is another story..and time I guess....

I've had the experience of being helped by some very nice people, and helping some other people too, and in both cases I've ended up making some great friends.
The other day, I went on a quest that I didn't have, just to help a person I didn't know. It was fun, and now we're on eachothers' friends lists.

I just hate it when I'm at LA or Draknors and I answer someones question, and 3 seconds later someone asks the same thing, then barrages me with questions because apparently I know 1 thing about the game.

same here, whenever i get something pretty good but not worth keeping, I map over to old ascelon and give it away Generally its just a bunch of max damage bows or swords... but when I was low level, I woulda loved to have such a weapon. (in fact i payed 200g, my savings at the time, for a 11-14 sword and was overjoyed)
it feels good to give back, especially since the trade chan is filled with people GOUGING eachother for money. its fun to see people in disbelief that you're actually giving away stuff for FREE

Sorry, posted in wrong thread.

It does feel nice helping people, although I haven't really noticed too much "meanness" during my playing time. As a whole, the in-game community is rather helpful.
And yes, VGCats does own ^_^

me too... I like the permanent pre-searing idea... It would be nice to visit it once in a while too...
Myself, I keep any weapons that are useful to me and give away any weapons that I can't use and people want. If people don't want it, it gets salvaged, if I can't salvage it I sell it... I think I've saved only 2 or 3 weapons and chakrams but just sold them last night to go to HEEELLLLLLLLLLLL!!!!!!!!!!....
The only thing I keep are crafting materials (it's fun to collect them, I have hundreds of most things) and runes/upgrade items...

I always sell weapons and stuff that i dont need
but i give away runes that i cant use, for free that is
cause im a monk/mesmer so runes for warriors, ranger and the other ones are no use to me so i rather make someone happy with them then sell them.
but the funny thing is when you want to give/sell bones nobody wants them
-_-**
I now have like 500 bones

im glad you all are helping, I just help a guy who didnt even know there was a searing do th mission and then started him off in the asfter searing world. It really is rewarding! And BTW there are no stupid questions, just stupid answers.

Yeah, now that I'm more used to the interface and selling, I prefer to sell off a good item, at vendor's price, and have someone use it. then having it just "disappear" into nothingness once sold to the vendor.
It took me awhile, but I've had good experiences selling stuff (and buying stuff... got a great golden sword perfect for my W/NE at cost. It was so perfect, I paid an extra 200 gp because he was selling it for 38).
I had two Ranger runes and gave them away free. It was funny, because I was approached by two rangers at the same time. I gave each one of them one. And everyone was grateful and understood... once I communicated each was getting one, instead of the first guy getting two.
That was cool. Except then, days later, a good friend of mine bought the game and made a ranger. d'oh. He would have had an easier time right outta the gate with 2 runes!
Oh well, GW is all about the karma.

I've been wondering, though, is it right to give weapons to the noobs at Ascalon?
Seriously?
I mean, yeah, they want the best gear, naturally, and it's better they're given them than that they buy them from someone at exorbitant cost - but doesn't it take away from their enjoyment of the game if they are given a weapon they wont find the like of for 10-15 levels? And is it fair to the other players, who get no weapon but may meet these guys in the Arena?
I don't know.
I've argued back and forth with myself, and decided to salvage items I don't need myself.
I still help everyone who asks a question I know the answer to, though.

I sold a Fiery Dragon Sword 15-22 for 50gp to a lvl 10 in ascalon
uther_necro
thx none noobs
Drakron
I sold a bow 12-21 +10 damage when >50% health at 60 gp in Ascalon.
Only reason I sold it is that it was a good bow for a ranger and I sold it about twice of the item listed price, perhaps its too good for that area but at least is a weapon that its going to be used for a while and beats selling it to a NPC or take it apart for salvage.

I have given away this to random people by asking riddles or making them find me in hide and seek games:
2k gold
2 minor vigor runes
1 necro blood magic
2 staff heads
2 staff grips
It's fun just to give away stuff, you know it will help them much more than it will help you. The 50 gold you get from selling the item or the 1-10 material pieces you get from salvaging it isn't worth the happyness of another player.
