Processor Speed + Help?

Hello, I'm new to these forums and GW as well. I recently upgraded my computer with a stick of ram and a better video card in hopes of being able to play the game. Right now I've got:

640MB of RAM
NVIDIA GeForce4 MX 4000
and an AMD Duron(tm) Processor, MMX, 3DNow, ~750MHz

All of the requirements for the game meet except for the processor speed which is 50MHz off. Does anyone know if this will have that much of an affect on the game? If it's going to be lagging like mad then I'll have to try and upgrade that as well but 50MHz doesnt seem like much to me; then again I know next to nothing about computers. Thanks in advance to any answers.

have you downloaded the client and taken a look at the log in screen? (see how it looks to you)

50 shouldnt make or break you

I often find myself playing on my wife's computer. Which is 900 mhz duron. But her video card is much better than mine. You shouldnt have any problems at all playing the game. The 50mhz off you are will probably have zero effect. Remember this game cators a bit to those people on dial up. If you have cable or dsl that should off set the measly 50mhz of performance. Even if you don't have high speed. I am sure you will probably be just fine.

are you sure it is a model 4000 or is that a typo

the 4000 is pci

and the agp numbers are 4200 4400 4600 ti

or 3 digit mx numbers

Nope, I'm looking at the dxdiag right now and it definitely says 4000. The slot I plugged it into was brown which I was told meant it was AGP (like I said, I dont know much about computers).

Strong suggestion you get someone a bit more used to computers to help you. See I have a link but the speed is far above where you all are talking about durons:

1.6 ghz is more than double what you have so I really really REALLY encourage you to get some help and see if this processor would work which would be pretty great considering it's around $50 US.

there will be a series of slots (from3-6) lined up evenly

if you have AGP that slot will be offset from that even row from .75-1.0 inch usually toward the middle of the motherboard

since you got it in without breaking it and the notches are offset it is agp

i checked nvidia site instead of a hardware site and found both flavors exist

ONE THING to consider

if it will take an athlon which has twice the on die memory as the duron a mid speed athlon (thunderbird core) will be more helpful in a gaphically intense game

You'll do okay with a Duron I don't see why not. But I would not run anything in the background. If you do then all bets are off...

The requirements I believe were a PIII 800MHz or equivalent. The Duron is not equivilant to the PIII 800MHz, even clocked higher than it. However, the system requirements are a rough guideline based on general testing, and the system may very well work.

Yeah, it's going to take a lot of tweaking but I think your PC can run Guild Wars. It may not be pretty and it may lag quite a bit, but it can probably run it. Oh, and for the love of god please don't PvP.
