I don't think it can be done in pre searing.

Once I helped this W/R try to get his for about an hour. They have this charm breaker thing they do. We finally had it down to him knocking him down and imediately charming, and I'd knowck it back down as it was getting up. No dice, time after time he would break the charm laid out flat on its back.

I have seen folks getting them in Lormar's pass, post searing, south of Beacon's perch. Those do not break charm. It's a very tough zone, though ;(

Bears are in both pre-searing (Wizard's Folly) and in the mountains I think.

It can be done, but it's difficult. Here's a thread showing a good way of doing it, and you can find a few more if you search.

Or you can wait till the iron mines mission and cap one without wasting all that time. On testing pets, only the stalker and elder black widow seemed to do overall damage, bears, lizards, lynxes and warthogs have the *exact* same health and damage, as well as almost identical attack speed.

Don't forget the giant chickens. For gits and shiggles I tamed the pre-searing stalker, still have it. For the same damage and health, etc, it's worth the chuckles walking around in a world full of monsters with an over-sized turkey named KFC.

Edit... hold the phone, does the stalker do less damage or something? Perhaps it's time to warm up the frier after all...

it's called a strider for starters! Strider! mine is named Mr Feathers. and all pets are equal damage wise, save the spider since it has a CHANCE to cause poisin. At the same lvl pets are equal except for the TYPE of damage they do.

Now, that's something new. I have never heard of other pets having an advantage over another.

Yes, you can charm a bear in pre searing. My ranger has one, they act kinda funny when you first tame them, won't attack what you attack, but keep using comfort animal and they come around.

Here is another link that details how to charm a bear... timing is everything good luck!

That is correct. Spiders do not cause poison. Rats do not cause disease (before someone starts with that).

All pets have exactly the same damage range, have exactly the same health and armor, move and attack with exactly the same speed, with the following exceptions:

* Damage types differ. Some deal slashing some piercing damage.
* Bears use the "Brutal Mauling" attack skill. This skill doesn't do anything special (except for triggering some Paragon "on use of an attack skill" chants), but it has a long activation time, which results in bears effectively dealing less damage over time.

I helped at guildmate charm a bear in Pre-Searing a few months ago. It's possible, but can sometimes be very frustrating.

It's not for the damage, but more for the novelty of it.

The answer has changed since then so the thread should be rezzed.

Well don't. You replied to the current post. The original post date was irrelevant.
