It will not install !!!!!!!!!!!
maxh91
When i put in the disc 1 into the drive, i proceed with the normal installation until i come to where it says ''downloading...'' after that nothing else happens, i have the reccomended system specs, and it works on a wireless network. I have tryed opening up the firewall completely, and have borrowed the game from a friend to try and install it (not to use the CD key). I have tryed doing the same with my other computer, with the minimum specs, that has ther rooter on it, yet it still will not work. Any suggestions?

Seems pretty pointless without a CD Key?
maxh91
i bought the game, doesnt install from disc, tried the client on webste, doesnt install, borrows mates disc, doesnt install. I think it might be to do with the wireless connection.
The reason that i borrowed my mates disc was because exactly the same thing happens when i try to download the client from the website.

Ok. You say it doesn't install and you thinks it's to do with wireless.
The game fully installs from CD. The only Updates that happen from the GW website after that, are to do with any updates they have released since they released the game.
So, is it the game is not installing or the updates and connections to GW are not working? If it's the game not installing, where are you installing it from?
If it's the updates when connecting to GW, then have you tried connecting your machine to the Wireless Router through a Network cable or directly to your network hub by cable. If not, i would suggest you try this first.
If you still have problems then, I would look at your machine and see if there is anything interfering with your installation.
Sounds to me like you may have issues with your PC possibly or the Wireless Router, if it's to do with the game installing. If it's the Wireless Router, what make and model??
Check out this website for Broadband/Wireless type connections.

They have a lot of info there regarding all sorts of Hardware from dozens of manufacturers.
Hope this helps a little.

Right then. It is the game that is not installing, not the updates.Ive tried all ways of installing it on two different computers, the same problem occurs. So the only thing that it can be is the wireless connection. As the only way the two computers are the same is the wireless connection.

If so, I don't see what it has to do with the Wireless Router. The only way i can see the Router causing a problem, is if you are installing the Game from another PC through the Network onto the PC you want to play it on, or it's the WIreless card you have installed in the machine.
If you think that is the case, then disconnect your wireless connection and anything to do with your wireless connection and try the install again.
Then if that doesn't work after doing that, give us the details of your PC Specs, Hardware and OS you are running, plus any firewall or Virus software you may also be running.
Also, are the 2 PC's yours? If so, do you have them both connected to the same network, with similar software on each machine, such as Firewall and Virus software. Don't imediately blame the Wireless Router as it could easily be software that is located on both machines, or possibly even some sort of SPyware or Virus causing you problems.
Addition - Have you tried your Game DIsc on your mates PC?
maxh91
yes, my mate has installed the game and is probably playing it as i speak.
i have tryed installing the game with the firewalls switched off, and have tryed spyware scans on both computers.
system specs:
31.5 gb free hard drive space (a lot of the 120gb has been used up)
258mb Ram
Ati Raedeon 1900 grapics card
Pentium 4 processor

Which ATI card is that again?
And you mean 256mb of ram right?
Which OS are you running?
Also, is your Hard drive split into partitions? If so, how much free space do you have where you are installing the game, and have you tried defragging that partition to clear up the free space available for a bigger chunk for GW to be installed?

yeah i have the Same problem and i have connected through a cable directly into the hub. I got the game last week and it worked great. but now it doesnt. it doesnt work at all so i uninstalled and reinstalled. but now it freezes at dowloading... this sux and help will be great.

Windows XP home edition is my OS
er... i know that the ATI graphics card that i have was a good one last year when i got the computer. it is either the 9800 or 1900, i get mixed up
my Hard Drive isn't split. I have defragged it over night. And now i have a grand total of 31.5gb free space.
And my two computers are connected to the same network.

Would appear you have a 9800 then. THere is no such card as a 1900, but was thinking you had a laptop or something with built in ATI Graphics for a minute there, as there is a 9100 IGP which is for Onboard Graphics.
ANyway, as mentioned in a previous reply i posted here. Have you tried removing the whole of the Wireless connection from your system and trying it without that connection.
Do you have a Wireless PCI card or some sort of USB Wireless adapter and either of them have drivers installed. If so, then i suggest removing them first then try the installation again.
Also, being that both machines are located on the same network, have you checked both of these machines for Spyware or Adware and even Viruses/Trojans etc.
Try checking for the SPyware stuff first. Spybot, Adaware and MS Spyware are all very good free to download programs from the internet.
If anyone knows of any others that are just as good or better, please feel free to add them.
Once you have tested for that, then try the reinstall again, especially if you detect some sort of mischief going on. If that doesn't work, then i suggest removing all wireless function from your PC and try the install again.

I have downloaded Spybot and it has worked very well. I have uninstalled the wireless drivers and re-insatalled my old ADSL modem driversand plugged in my modem, connecting my computer through a cable instead of wireless. I then started up the guildwars installation from the disc. But it stops when i reach the end of ''connecting to arenanet...'' instead of getting stuck at ''downloading...'
After, i tried downloading the client from the website but the same thing happens.

I have the same problem and i used a cable to a hub instead of the usual wireless connection. does anyone else have this problem? it still stops at "downloading..." for me.

Just from the sound of it stopping at "Connecting to ArenaNet..." it would sound like your transmission is being blocked by a firewall/router somewhere along the route. With some firewalls it will pause all network activity and ask you to allow the script to proceed (i.e. Sygate, Zone Alarm).
If you have a third-party firewall installed open up the GUI while you are installing GW and watch the network activity to see if it pauses, spikes, etc. at that moment.
I know its a long shot, but I used to have similar problems with EverQuest 2 where Zone Alarm would block the program without telling me. I had to go in and set the eq2.exe to a trusted application and give it network access at all times before it would work correctly 100% of the time.

I run Zone Alarm on both mine and my friends PC's and GW does ask for the program to be allowed access to the network, normally twice. Once for GW and once for another program but i can't remember which one.
Firewalls work in various manners and they may have to be configured to let GW access, unlike Zone Alarm which actually gives you a prompt. I believe Nortons also does the same thing.
I have no idea about any others as I've never run them.
One thing to remember though, if your Router also has a firewall installed as well as your PC, one could over ride the other if you don't have them configured correctly.

i had all the same problems and it has been frustrating me for days. i found out it was cybercitter. it allowed me to play when i bought the game last week but after the new update i had the "downloading..." problem. i disabled cybercitter and it works! so does half life now. I will test this out tomorrow.
With regards to firewalls, never switch one off, or virus software, just to play games.
I know people do this, but with all the malicious software out there, for most normal, i just want to buy a PC and play people, they may not have the knowledge to resolve any issues.
I use Zone Labs security and it works fine. I also have there virus software running and MS spyware. I don't hit any issues.
And with regards to the original poster, i believe he has already tried to switch off the Firewalls. With regards to any other software, i have no idea what is being run on anyones PC. As most techies here, we can only go on what info people give us, but thanks for the info on cybercitter.

Urgh, i have tried everything that i can do for guild wars but nothing has worked. I surrender. Back to WoW for me , but thanks for all the help

Also, have you removed all reference to your Firewalls from your PC.
Don't give up, it's all part of the learning curve, and if you ever get anymore challenges like this in the future then you'll be able to lock down on the problem a lot more quickly.
