What is Ascension?

So I'm on my 2nd trial to Ascend in the desert, but I'm really curious, what exactly does ascending do? I heard some people in town talking about picking up a different 2ndary proffession. Is this true? If so that would rock, cuz I definetely don't like my 2ndary prof

You can pick up a new secondary profession without ascending, but you might have to spend some skill points to outfit that new profession. The quests aren't reset, so the only way to get skills is to buy them from skill trainers.

Ascension just opens up a new and exciting chapter in the game.

That's so awesome! Ok, then I guess my next question would be...which town has the NPC that lets me pick a new profession....cuz lemme tell you, death does not work well when you're a monk primary without soulreaping

In my experience, you must ascend to get the new profession, as the ghosts don't offer you the quests until after you have ascended.

They all offered me the quests before I ascended. In fact I'd already completed 2 of them (without changing professions) before I ascended. It might be a case of needing to be level 20 before you can make the change.
