Guild Wars Bot Policy

When you zone into Pre-searing Ascalon to be met by 5 naked dancing warriors named "Gay Marine 1 2 3 4 and 5" it would be enough to make me want to return the game and demand my $50 back.
The naming policy EQ had when it FIRST came out didn't take shit from anyone and needs to be used, and maintained, by more online games.
No names based on pop culture/fiction.
No titles
No nonsense or gibberish
No profane or hateful names.
No word plays or names based on items/mobs/places of Guild Wars.
You were basically REQUIRED to come up with an original fictional first and last name for your character and nothing else would do, and I loved it. It also kind of helped the games credibility out at the start, you know?
For every "Theodor Brightblade" on Guild Wars there are a dozen "Gay Marine", "I Sell Sigils PST", "IIIIIIIIIIIIIII", "Longest Peniz", the list goes on and on. These names simply have no place in any game what so ever and I will do whatever I can to contribute to people like this getting banned.

Right now, there are players that have INVESTED hundreds of hours on mutliple character. If you think they would not be pissed if their account was disabled because you want this game: Guild Wars, to be more like some other game, you are ignorant.

That's the same excuse everyone who abuses bots uses.
You don't -need- XP. You -need- to either complete missions or get rushed to Ascension and immediately level 20 that way. You don't -need- most of the skills in this game unlocked.
It doesn't take that long to do much of anything.
Hell, I managed to swing two--TWO--different characters to LG in one day. The next day, I rushed those same two down to Riverside (bypassed the missions). From there, it was an easy hop over to Ascension-Land and made it to Draknor's. (which, again, was easily done in less than a day).
Right now, I'm back to taking my time and tinkering.
If you dont' have time to play, then maybe this game isn't for you. XP isn't really an issue, considering they practically GIVE IT TO YOU. As for skills, they're easy to unlock--so easy I'm not exactly how or why you need a bot to do that for you.

Now, the second option means more work for us, but it means more freedom for you. I think it's the better option. We do ask that you report names, and in that way you help us enforce the guidelines attendant with that freedom. We can run a tight ship and narrowly constrain the choices for players on teh front side, or we can allow more self-expression and clean house of those who step across the line.
It's easy to report names -- support.guildwars.com -- and I assure you we do take action against those that are offensive. We sent off a list of more than 100 names just yesterday. Many people will find themselves at the end of character block, with no choice but to delete and remake. And if you saw the list, you'd have no doubt that those names needed to be gone. On the other hand, I've seen the list of "thou shalt not's" for some games, and wondered how so many people fit into the 11 names they allow.

Do we have offensive names in Guild Wars? Yes. Do we allow them? No, and we will deal with them as quickly as they are reported. With the help of others committed to making the game world a better place, we will deal with them even more quickly and surely. Thanks a bunch for being willing to help out; we greatly appreciate it!

So long as there is a system, people will seek to push it.
I saw one of the most intelligent names that sadly may be labeled offensive, and it takes a brain to see it for what it is. "Token Black Warrior" comments on the token black person effect in so many movies, and is a great joke on American culture, but I fear things like that may get nuked cause someone doesn't get it.
I don't envy your job, Gaile, but let me tell ya I appreciate it.
And for the record, Roxor McOwnage is a comic strip character, copyright of RimFrost on deviantArt. I read EVERY one that comes out. Believe me, I appreciate that reference a lot.

As for the gay marines, I don't find their names offensive. The word "gay" isn't a slur. It is a civilized term for a certain sexual preference. Would you be offended by a name like "Native American Charlie"? Maybe they are dumb names, but not offensive unless you have a problem with the very thought of a gay person. And if that is the case, it is really YOUR problem.
--Nokomis
No, I don't have a problem with Native American Charlie.
Maybe I should make Token Native American Ranger. That would be fitting, since that's my ethnicity...
And nice one on the in the closet folks. If I see one more phallic symbol on my map, I'm just gonna start dropping groups. I wish people would get over the childish OMG penis phase.
