Hi,
I just picked up a Belkin Nostromo 52 speedpad - it seems like it would be perfect for guild wars - lots of keyboard buttons, shift states, macros, and a dpad. My problem is, I'm having problems using the D-pad for movement. It seems that the diagonals are mapped to separate button presses, so if I wanted to go "Up/Left" it's really a separate key, instead of the two keys combined. This makes movement a bit jerky, since I'm limited to 4-way instead of 8-way.
Has anyone found a solution for this? I wish they would add direct-input support as I think that would solve my problem.

Help strafing with a Nostromo 52 Speedpad!!

You can create a custom Macro that combines W+Q, W+E, S+E and S+Q respectively. Just make sure that the delay time between key presses is at the lowest setting (.05, I believe) and that the option for repeat key is checked when creating the macro. These can be mapped to the diagonal direction keys.
What I do however is use the D-pad for forward/backward and to turn, rather than sidestep; and then assign the two sidesteps to keys instead. So to strafe, I press a key while moving the D-pad foward/back. It's also helpful to be able to sidestep + turn, to get behind opponents quickly.

Thanks for the reply. When I build a macro and set the timing to .05 on repeats I still get a stuttering motion. Do I need .05 inbetween each press within the macro or just the repeat timer?

Only between the key down and up presses, not in the repeat... set it to 0.

Well, I tried messing around by putting delays between the up and down presses, but no matter what combination I pick I still get a "tap dancing stutter". I wish they would add direct-input support, since I can map the dpad like a regular joystick and it would work great. I'd hate to lose the strafing, because I use most of the keys for quick-select on skills and other functions. Strafing for the ocasional maneuver would be perfect, if only I could get the diagonals working...

With the Nostromo, you have two different record options, one that realtime records the up down, and the other one where you can manually enter each key press, delay, etc.
What I would suggest doing, since you are close, is to delete the up presses from the macro, and even think about removing the delays. Also make sure that you have Repeat macro while pressed.
Then when ever the button is held, the macro will just keep the down press, no up/down stuttering.
I have the N50, so it should be the same for you. Good luck
