Auction House!
Zeppo
Man, what Guild Wars really needs in an auction house, where people would sell and buy. Hopefully, that would reduce the constant stream of redish pink in towns and cities (mainly Lions Arch). If there was an auction house, people could sell and buy easier and there would not be all this spam. This is my only thing against Guild Wars, and i was just wondering what other people think.

No, what we really need is a free market, where in a given district in a given outpost, players can put items up for sale that will stay there, even if they leave, and they can retrieve any gold they made when they come back to that outpost, but regardless of what district they're in.

the problem with this is
most sellers are either trying to <BIGGIFY PRICES, LOL> on stuff that is not even MAX value or RARE and rip off a newbie who doesn't have the money in the first place or JUST get rid of crap... THEY CAN'T SELL IT WHERE THEY ARE ... because people are recieving the same items if not better.... so they go to some city in the past like ascalon or lions arch... and try to pull a 1000 gold for a minor rune... SO I'D GO TO THE AUCTION HOUSE.. because i actually want to buy a few superior runes... but that'd just be us trading our superior equipment... and all the spam of selling steel ingots for a million dollars would not be there anyways
edit:
//i myself go there to sell my items to n00bs... but hey... i sell minor runes for 300 gold... i prolly should sell them for 100 but why even sell them to people then... why not just sell them to merchant for 25gold

Yeah, well i guess this is a pretty big problem, and alot of stuff would be better than whats going on right now.

Search button, this topic has been talked about a lot.
Second AH would balance economy, and if some fool is willing to pay 1k for a minor rune then that is their stupidity. Minor runes come and go so easily that price increase that much would not last.

Lucon what you described IS an auction house, in the MMO sense anyways.

where does all that gold come from?
is it coined at the ASCALON MINT?

An economy is much more then where the gold comes from or even the amount of gold in circulation, it's the supply and demand of items and the fluctuation of market prices. Item prices go up and down do they not?
seeker monk
where do the items come from?
from drops... where are the drops coming from?
from the charr economy...
oh i see... we're americans and the charr are the chinese...
they make everything.. .we kill them and take their stuff...
YES THIS IS AN ECONOMY

Hi.
A game doesn't need a stock market in order to have an economy... The game produces in the form of drops, that we then distribute and consume.
And America hasn't killed a whole lot of Chinese people lately.

I think what people would find most helpful of all is the ability to more easily buy a specific item they're looking for. At the moment it's up to luck - that someone selling is shouting at exactly the right time, at exactly the right district.
Even if they don't implement a full-blown auction or market, just a bulletin board would be useful - where you can type some text in a post that is searchable by others in game, and your post disappears when you log off. People can keyword search through the posts and the PM you to negotiate a price and arrange a meeting. I guess that's pretty much RPGTraders and other trading forums :P
But it would still be more convenient than a website if they implemented some other related features - like being able to PM or post a "link" to your items, so someone can mouse over that text and see all the stats. (like in WoW/EQ2).
And since it's a bulletin board - you can also post WTB, or offers to be a mercenary, or Guild recruiting messages, etc. But a full fledged auction house or market system would probably still be better.
