Lightning Drake's lightning orb?

Did anyone else just notice an increase of damage from lightning orb since the last "patch"? It appears the devs are trying to remove all types of solo farming. Quite sad. If i remember correctly lightning orb from lightning drakes (lvl 18) did 15 damage to my knights armor+shield. Now it does 45 damage. No more sanctum cay drake farming for me

Farming is lame. I am glad that they did this.

After you complete the game there is little else to do,except PvP with a bunch of idiot kids,endless stupid trips to FoW or UW,or farm.Said it before ill say it again AN hates PvE players.

They have also completely broken the Sanctum Cay bonus due to this, the drakes orb the restless spirit to death in a few seconds, tried spirinting and everything to the spirit, he always dies. pretty annoying.

Well for the bonus, you only have to kill the drakes in the beginning when you first see them after the inferno imps.

You may not want to hear this, but unfortunatley there is no way possible to get the 75k armor in a *short-term*. Although it is very possible in a *long-term* but who knows how long that takes when money drop amounts barely increase at higher missions and yet the money you actually recieve is less than the lower missions because it is divided by more players. And like the person above said, youre very limited after you have beaten all the missions. To each his own I suppose, but I believe you were out of place by making this remark.

How about instead of complaining about drakes getting "nerfed" try and find a new solo farming spot. I know of atleast 4 or 5 spots i can solo farm that i have never seen mentioned once on this forum, people just talk about riverside/drakes. The reason those spots/mobs were "nerfed" is people were building entire characters around simply farming those areas, which i can understand why the devs want to change that. Just be creative, look around, and you will find much better spots then those drakes ;P.

Well then, yes they did =P. But you gotta admit it was way to easy before, personally i could go into the Gates of KRyta mission and pull 8-12 drakes in one big bunch and solo them all at once. Now isn't that a bit absurd?

Well this a pvp oriented game, and if you dont like pvp there are a total of 30 different combinations class wise you choose to remake and play with to see the differences, and they will be adding new content on occasion(other than expansions), its not that they "hate" pve players, its just that this game doesnt focus on pve like average mmorpgs.

Yes this is a PvP oriented game but if you have played PvE you will have noticed a lot of subtle changes.I still think it is to discourage PvE,and the main thrust of my first point was at the guy who thinks farming is lame.I was explaining why ppl do it, not everyone wants to play with 10 year olds.Much as i liked the free game aspect at first i now think a monthly fee would be great it would drive the kiddies away.

Merely killing the drakes does NOT get you the bonus as the bonus is to escort the ghost to his grave. The ghost is DEAD when you get there, so you cannot escort him. It can be done though. I was with a group of W/Mo today and they sprinted past EVERYTHING to the ghost and gave him health. Unfortunately, even though we saved the ghost, we all died with only one Drake left as we got MOBBED by 10 drakes...

On the game updates page they state that they fixed lightning drake's air magic ability. Having played an air elementalist, it was obvious that before the patch, drakes had an incredibly low air magic skill. I thought lightning orb sucked due to the drakes, till I got to try it out with decent air magic.

I don't think they're working to discourage PvE. I'm a heavy PvE player and they've done tons to improve and balance PvE. They doesn't always mean making it easier though.

I only see one reason for farming, and that's unlocking things for PvP characters. Equipment is so easy to get just through the course of the game, and runes are easy to find, either from stuff you pick up or from other players. Haven't seen a need for ridiculous amounts of gold in the game either. Armor isn't that expensive aside from the 15k armor which is a luxury. Sigils can be won instead of bought, and even 90k for a sigil from the trader isn't that hard to accumulate if you have a guild of at least 8 chipping in for it. Not much point worrying about a sigil if you don't have 8 members yet.

I think farming would be less necessary for some people if there was a better method of commerce between players in game. I really liked the auction house in FFXI, since it was easy to find what you wanted, see what the going rates are, and if it wasn't something extremely rare, you could just go over and buy it at your convenience. Same for selling. I'd love to see ANet rip off that auction/mail system.

Faction has now rendered farming somewhat useless for unlocks. Now the main reason people farm is greed, greed and occasionally necessity. I myself marvel at those who save up 60k and blow it on 15k armor instead of a superior vigor rune.

Edit: since guild wars isn't actually a MMORPG, monthly fees would basically cause everyone to leave guild wars, and a few hardcore fans to stay. There aren't many aspects of the pve in this game to make it worth replaying over and over again, and paying money for a mediocore pve experience is pointless.

actually when the game launched the drakes were MUCH harder, then people started farming them constantly, and their drops were reduced along with their damage, both lightning orb and physicl attack, then people started soloing them, so their attacks were moved back up, the lightning orb is not even close to what it was originally, believe me...

That sounds a lot like Star Wars Galaxies and soloing herds of Rancor with Doctor's buffs and 80% resistance Composite armor. The buffs could last you well over an hour and the amount of damage that armor would absorb was just ridiculous. That was actually what got me to stop playing again.

Personally I am a little glad that they changed it. For farming I always felt it was way too easy with my ranger. I have the very nice bonus to AC vs ele. and it was pretty sad that the lvl 20 grand drake couldn't even get me a 3rd of the way down on my health before I killed him.

It is still very possible to solo those drakes, just not as easy.

Actually, a monthly fee would drive away more than just the ten year olds, and bring in more nerds. Also, the ten year old kids, will just ask their parents to pay for it for them. And you are self centered also, thinking that they should do that. There are people who like to play a MMO, yet, they can't pay the monthly fee. A lot of the free MMos are horrible. I know, I have played tons of them, because I was unable to pay for the ones that costed money.

So adding a monthly fee will make the game bad, and will prevent a lot of players from being able to play the game.
