Mixing skills question

Ok so I have an elementalist, lv 11 with secondary Monk which seems to work rather well for me as I can strike from distances and heal those in my party that are more in the battle field.

However my other character is a Ranger, I just started that one so have not gotten to a secondary skill set yet. What mixes best with a Ranger for someone who likes to have powerful spells but not be in the battle forefront?

I'd say your best off with Necromancer, Elementalist, or Mesmer as your secondary if you don't want to be in the midst of things.
