Suppose a mob drops a gold armor. I pick it up.
Am I potentially losing anything if I leave it unidentified and use an expert salvage kit on it?

A long time ago I saw a post claiming armor drops should be left unidentified and salvaged with an expert salvage kit. Recently, I saw a post saying if the armor is left unidentified and exp. salvaged, a potential rune may be lost. So whats the deal here? Should I identify armor drops or not?

If you salvage it unidentified, you can get an unidentified rune, which you can sell for more(because it unlocks the rune for PvP when you identify it).

yeah that happened to me today i forgot to id an armor piece and salvaged it and got an unidentified rune which i had to identify so you might as well use the kit it doesn't cost that much

so leaving the armor unidentified does not alter my chances of getting a rune from it?
I realise that if I get a rune from an unidentified armor, it will be unidentified, but I was wondering if my probabilites go up/down depending on whether the item I'm salvaging is identified or not?

You need to identify the item to unlock the rune/items in most cases, if you going to salvage it anyway i doubt it would make to much difference, tho if you salvage it without identifying it & the Salvage is a fail, then you would miss out on unlocking that skill.. i think :/

Try identifying everything before you sell to the npc , i always find i get an extra 30-50g for it.

If you plan on ever making a pvp character you better identify everything you find so that you unlock them for pvp, if you don't identify it and the salavage it and you get materials instead, then you don't unlock that item for pvp, however if you don't plan on making a pvp then you don't have to worry about identifying it, you still have the same chance of getting the rune.
