Petition: Character Race
Swarnt Brightstar
I personally think it would be cool if there were different races that you could be in GW... Such as an Elf, Dwarf, Kender, Orc, Goblin, etc.

They may very well do that with the expansions. Ofcourse it would also mean they would have to add new slots for character creation unless they are going to make people delete characters.

Actually, I was really hoping for some original races, rather than the same 'ol - same 'ol from pretty much EVERY game out there at the moment. Elf, dwarf, etc etc... it's all been done.

This topic has been done to death, and it shouldn't be a very high priority for the developers.

Agreed, but they should NEVER be allowed to enter an outpost/city of Tyria. You have to remember that humans control Tyria, and that all other races are either in hiding, such as the Serpents; or kiled off, like the Druids. The other intellent races, like the Tengu and Charr have been in conflict ever since they were given magic. They should continue this important theme by forcing the various PC races to war, and never to socially associate.
Apophis Jaan
I'm fine with other player races, just no elves. One of the things I love about Guild Wars, no elves. After World of Warcraft and there damnable night elves it'll be too soon if I never see another elf again. So other races good, elves bad!
Ginko
If there is going to be a new race, it will be Dwarves. Those races are allies of the humans and they would be able to enter outposts and towns while fitting with the lore.
As for stuff I'd want, I think Centaurs would be an excellent addition. It would be strange seeing a half horse half man trotting down a street thought.

this shouldn't be that hard because they already have the minotaurs/centaurs/dwarves... and rangers/necros look like elves and drow
its just... please put elf next to my name

Dwarves are strange though. While humans are Everywhere, Dwarves are only found in the Shiverpeaks. I think this would make it strange if Dwarves were made a playable race. I can't see Centaurs be made a playable race, as they seam to be constantly waring with humanity too. There is far too much racism in Tyria for other PC races to work, in my opinion (I know I don't want to group with a dirty Tengu or Centaur).
seeker monk
perhaps a godly quest given by dwayna herself which allows you to be reincarnated as a dwarf... why you'd wanna be one, gimli? i do not know.
Rhombus
I think dwarves should be playable. They live in the shiverpeaks, and an expansion would be able to give them a new storyline, making them go everywhere they want too. I really love how dwarves look with hammers and axes. its like they were made for those midgets... i mean dwarves!
seeker monk
i don't WANT to WAIT for an expansion.. i want them to fix the game now...
fix the game.
SO IT MAY NOT REPRODUCE... (just kidding)

I don't really care if it only comes in an expansion. This would lower he amount of ppl that will play with dwarves, which would make me 1337er nah just kidding, but I don't really care if it'll cost me some money (only if the whole expansion is worth it of course) Just dont let it be like the sims, where they make a new expansion every week.
Yojinj
Naw more then just one race and don't be so picking with camps and citys.
I'd love to be a charr Necromancer or a real Undead Necromancer.
But i think those Races should just give you a different look, not other abilitys/stats.
This would keep things balanced and it would be cosmetical only.

ye good Idea, not like u'll miss a dwarf in PvP more than a human, just because he's smaller, and everybody allways aims for heads
eA-Zaku
I want to be a centaur. Ventari and the Losaru centaurs look really cool. If all you're looking for is a graphical change, then I don't see the point...

EDIT:
Maybe you could begin in Borlis Pass and you need to assist Prince Rurik getting through the mountains, and then you decided to follow them into Kryta. That could work!

I think it'd be cool to be a centaur... I would definitely be the first centaur!
Nice idea Ginko with helping prince rurik... But he kinda DIES!... but you could AVENGE his death or something...

I personaly like the idea of having different playable races... but i think they should make up some new ones... for the sole purpose of playing as them, and somehow add them into the story line... Dwarves can be a playable race... since they exist in the land of guild wars...
Tellani Artini
I don't think they should use the cookie-cutter Tolkien races. That would be silly.

NEVER! NEVER!
Why do you feel the urge to strip a game of all it's originality? This topic has been done to death and the masses feel that it's time for an RPG without elves, dark elves, silver elves, orcs, and trolls. (Well, we do have trolls)
Are you mad, man?

A place like PVP, except on the matter of running instead of killing would be good. sometimes it gets boring after X amount of fights that you just hope something new might happen. I liked the kill X amount of people in 3mins, that was good. why not have capture the flag, and this run idea. Your team must out run the attackers. or it could be better thought out..
eA-Zaku
If they ever do something stupid (IMO it is very stupid to simply "look cool" and ruin the game/waste developers' time) I hope it is at least impressive and hard to do.
Such as Pay 50 skill points: your character graphic changes to Glint.
Or, collect all skills of that professon: your character graphic changes to that god's avatar.

IMO, it wouldn't really make sense to be anything other than a human. The story just wouldn't make sense. How many times do you think a dwarf is gonna come and help save the people of Ascalon. Or go become ascended in the desert. I'm not saying its a terrible idea. But in Guild War's case it wouldn't make sense. Apart from all the extra work it would take to add a second race.
Kershent
ANet would have to contradict itself to add extra races. Like Fish said, the storyline just wouldn't make sense if you were a race other than human. They would have to make up content that could slightly parallel that of the human campaign (Dwarves would fight against the Stone Summit in a long campaign, and would eventually require ascension, something like that), but really, it has to be different. ANet's promise on expansions is to only have content made for level 20s. Unless you plan on making every other race start at 20, that just can't happen.
lightblade
Elfs are nerds, and nobody likes nerds
Dwarves are just...dwarfs! you see people like to hang out with dwarfs in school?
Orcs just UGLY!!!!!
Goblins are like ants you can step on one of them all the time!
Human are the best! We got brains!
If you really don't like to play as human, so be it! Start wearing a custum to work everyday!

Humans are fine as the primary race. I don't want anything else, but maybe a few new professions would be nice, like a thief that can actually sneak past enemies. Only thing then is you will walk into town and see 9 million Thief/Monks.
Rhombus
lightblade, are u sure you have brains? anyway for the ppl bitching about elves: Dwarves are already implemented in the game, just like centaurs. Why shouldn't THOSE two be playable? I simply LOVE dwarves
Rhunex
I think what you are all overlooking is that GW as it is now, is only Chapter 1. They have already hinted at a Chapter 2, with more races, professions, skills, maps, storyline, etc. Asking for a new race now would be too much, especially considering they haven't even completed all the professions they have now. Mainly, they haven't finished some of the armor skins, and other things like that. To make a new race they would have to:
Make new professions
Makes hundreds of skills
Make armor skins
Make unique armor/weapons
Make unique quests
Edit NPCs to give quests to new race/professions
Add skills to vendors
With all of that to do for a races, they would have to have a big update, easily high mbs or possibly into the gb range, and at that size, it would be best to release it in an xpac(I think this is what they might do, I don't know for sure).

BUT, they could incorporate a race non-existent to tyria by having that race sail over from their continent!
I get good ideas
Rhombus
Its just like a golden elf and a platinum elf, but it's worth less on the slave market. They work just as hard tho.

I'd love to be a centaur. That would rock. Especially if they could run fast. Or carry party members on their back.. I mean.. well, no, just kidding on that one. hehe

Give races other stats and ppl just use a race to gain something, not caring about the looks.
Example:
Undead race are better Necromancer. You just see undead then as necromancer and no more humans.
Thats why it should be only graphically. No mess with balance and ppl that care about not-looking like everyone else gain something good.
And many ppl care abaout their char appearance.
Massassi
I for one would love to be able to choose a different race even just for cosmetic purposes.
Dwarves, Forgotten and Centaur are the most likely choices because the current story has shown them to be intelegent and the Dwarves and Centaur were infact allied with the humans for some time before the wars. The forgotten are a different story, They ruled tyria before humans and might seek to repopulate. Plus, anyone whos talked to the NPCs near the port in Lion's Arch or pre ordered their game at Best Buy knows about Kantha, another continent that is not on our map. Kantha provides limitless possiblities for new story lines and races. Who is to say there aren't Orcs, Wolfen or, though I hope not, Elves in Kantha.
As a suggestion, I'd like to put forward a race.
As ascolon beggins to retake land from the Charr forces, something horrible is discovered. Half-Charr, They are the illegitimate children of ascolon women and primative Charr warriors. They range in appearance from very charr like to almost human, though, some Characterisics are always present : The horns, the tail and the claws. The poeple of Ascolon don't know what to make of their discovered siblings but the kingdom welcomes them as their ability to speak both the human language and the language of the Charr is essential to war time negotiations.

If Guild Wars wants to remain original and above the rest, (which it currently easily does) why not later on offer an expansion that allows some of the current races encountered to be played? The centaurs look very nice, as do the birdmen races as well.

I always thought that later expansions would include the following races: Krytans, Orrians, Deldrimor Dwarves, and Charr.
It just seemed natural for the game.
Though Krytans pretty much are just Ascalonians with dark skin...

I seriously doubt the Idiots Savant guild or Negative Zero care about your originality when they're slaughtering you in PvP.
I have yet to meet someone who looks like me
For my previous characters the closest match was matching skin tone, face, and hair color. Not matching armor. You guys are blowing the "clone" thing way out of proportion. Do you think even by adding new races there will be some kind of super individuality that no one would dare copy off you? Think about it? If you're seeing clones now, you'll be seeing clones even with a new race!
If you want to be original be a rainbow tattoo monk or something. Mix dyes. Just don't waste Arenanets time and money or else there may not even be a Guild Wars to play.

So if playing a different race doesn't make sense with story, how about pvp character creation ? Playing a different race is just a cosmetic change of appearance and would do nothing to hurt the balance of classes, and therefore a perfectly fine idea. Of course it would be nice if dwarf has innate +1 axemastery or elf with +1 marksmanship, but that would probably have to wait.......
