What happened to the original storyline?
Gipson
well, the manual and the first part of the game sets up the whole charr thing and gets you into it. humans vs charr. save the world from the hairy beasts.
then once you get into the shiverpeak mountains, its completely forgotten. not mentioned again. it seems like you and your party just run away from cause, leaving family and friends for dead. now you must take on some kind of cult and save the world from THEM.
idaknow, this is one point that bothers me about GW. the sudden change of storyline. can anyone straighten this out for me? am i missing something?

Flameseeker Prophecies, the Chosen, Ascension.

there was that little scene where the king disowned the prince leading to the present scene as you forge ahead into new territory and new adventute
Doctor Anomalo
i wanted to stay and fight the charr, not turn tail and run!
Sekkendou
Yeah I agree, the game needed to at least offer you the chance to return to Ascalon after taking care of the Flameseeker stuff, and whoop some charr ass off the face of the earth. I also felt like the storyline just decides that Ascalon doesn't matter anymore, just because they had retarded royalty.

Lol. too bad you cannot win the war against the charr when you beat them all in the end of the Great Northern Wall mission or in pre-searing.
If you read the book that came with the game, you'll learn that the Charr invasion isn't done when you escape to Kryta through the Shiverpeak.
In the story, the Charr take down Ascalon and move further to the south into the Orrian Kingdom.
Into the Shiverpeak, your main goal is to bring the refugee safely into Kryta. And to do so, you have to fight against the Stone Summit who are a group of xenophobe dwarves that hate all other race and want to rule over the Shiverpeak.
You don't hear about the Charrs into Kryta because the White Mantle managed to push them back to the north. And they now have other bigger problem than the Charr invasion..
That's about how far the story in the book goes.
Maybe what get you confused into the story is the fact that you can go back to Ascalon after your escape.. Because in the story line it should have been totaly invaded by the Charrs and the only survivor are with you fleeing into Kryta. Just that you aren't there when it happen so you don't know about it in the game.

I noticed this too, and when i got to the part where *spioler* the Prince dies *spioler* that felt like the new story kills the other.....we at least for me.
Juhanah
This is what in my opinion makes the story pretty nice.
I didn't finished the game yet so i don't know about the end.. But it seem to me that the whole game is a big introduction to something even bigger than we can imagine.

Hmmm...maybe you could come back and save Ascalon? But that would be for another chapter.

i think of this like a good book series where the first book or 2 is really setting a good foundation to lay the rest of the series on
Tavenlen
I thought the reason Ascalon just disappeared from the storyline is because when you leave with Rurik, most of the people go with you.
If there aren't many people there, what would be the point of saving the kingdom?

looked like there were only about 10 ppl in that cutscene...thats pretty bleak as seeing how big ascalon is .

Expansion: Return of the Charr *DUN DUN DUN*
No but really they'll probably do stuff with charr later.

Also, you have to remember that you arent the main character really. You're a character that stands in the background, follows the mains and adds to the story. You're involved, its just not about you.

Anyway, I think it is a possiblity that chapter 2 make take you deep into the Charr territory to wipe em out. That'd be cool.

The ghost spirit looks like prince rurik. Would be funny to have another ascension quest set that involves getting him to another Temple event. Like it starts off by searching the underworld for him or something.
I haven't gotten to underworld yet, so I'm not sure if he's in there.
