Greetings all,
For my first GW character I was looking towards the Elementalist route since I've always loved spellcasters in MMORPGs. The tricky part though is factoring in the subclass. At the moment I'm looking towards Monk.
As far as roles go, I want to be a great solo/party PvE character that can dish out damage while being able to switch roles and heal the team too. I was wondering if an e/mo would be able to achieve this, juggling enough mana back and forth to accommodate for both.
With that said, is e/mo a viable combination for the goal I am looking towards? If so what would be a build to try out?

E/mo is a good damage dealer and a fair healer, I'm not too familiar with the game yet but it'd be the second best healer type. Energy storage is a must. The most important thing is to learn to manage your energy wisely and learn when to best time your attacks to make the most of them. It'll probably be best to pick one other elemental skill for attack and stick with it, using (element) attunement to reduce the costs some. And whatever you do, don't tank because you wont have much armor or the monk's bonus to healing.

El/Mo is very versatile. I always have plenty of refund points, so I frequently re-spec to heal or AoE. Whatever my team needs. This versatility makes it easy to get into PUGs. Don't expect to make an El/Mo and pigeon-hole yourself into "Fire AoE". You need to be a flexible player if you use Monk as secondary.

El/mo's can be great healers, they lose on divine favor, but can complement a monk primary very well, because their heals are smaller, so there's less overlap, and they have a lot of energy. An el/me is also a very nice class, due to the energy gain from Inspiration.
For PvP, elmo healers are less likely, elmos using protection are more likely. Also, an el/me is probably specced for damage, whereas el/mos will often complement protection spells with snares from the water line. Fire is seen on both jobs, as some of the AoEs are decent.
