"WTS Major Fire Rune for just 1 piece of gold"
and I might take you serious.
Keep in mind, there are enough jerks that just want to spam so if someone's looking like a spammer or uber 1337 (for example too many exclamation marks) I ignore him.

I normally give minor runes to friends. Allthough I get too many necro runes. 2 of my friends are necros but I already gave them all the minor runes they need. It's sad

I sometimes hang around in lower areas waiting for someone to form a group for a tough quest, then I ask them if they need help. Most of the time they'll invite me. If I see someone doing a good job I ask them if they need a rune or offer them a weapon or something. Nothing too powerfull, because the really good ones are going to my friends or being sold.

It's amazing the stupid stuff that people will tell you when they think they can get something for nothing. I made it very clear that I was giving things away to low level peeps to help them out, and I've got freakin' 15's asking if they can have the upgrades (which weren't that hot) for nothin.
I may start selling things to the merchant as well.

I went to Ascalon today and handed out a variety of items, weapons and gold to various random people. I got so fed up with trader mentality that I witnessed during the few times that Ive tried to purchase/sell items. Particularly annoying are those who, during a trade, ask for an offer when trying to sell. It is a waste of time. If you want to sell something, make it an auction, or have a price in mind. Yet I digress...
I posted in teh trade chat that I was giving things away to those in need, so if I come up to you and offer it, take it. Then I looked for the lowest level char I could find that fit my items, and gave them whatever I had. Only request I had was that they (someday) repeat the process to ensure karmic balance. People were amazed and grateful, and I got warm fuzzies in return. Works for me! I wish I could see mroe people doing this.
Of course, there were those who came up to me, initiated a trade and spammed, "What you got?" Needless to say, those individuals got nothing. Always a taker out there.
Overall, the experience was fun, and made my day and hopefully a few other peoples day as well.
Feel da luv....spread it around.

eh, I'm used to being poor. Every MMO I have ever payed.... poor.... So im not expecting to be much different in GW =\
sorry to ask this, but just for the record. runes are used to upgrade weapons and armor, and can be obtained from salvaging items?
thx,

actually, about upsetting the balance of the game by giving stuff away...
If you give stuff away to lower level people, they will only be able to use it for a short time anyway. Pretty soon, they'll be upgrading the armor with the nice rune you gave them; or upgrading the weapon with the nice modifier. When they do this, there's a good chance they'll lose the rune or modifer anyway.
So unless lots of people are give away lots of stuff, I think giving away stuff just gives the lower level people benefits for short periods of time. Plus, the lower level people really can't use the major/superior runes anyway because of the health hit.

But I don't want to just post low prices, because it attracts too many resellers. And then sometimes a person offers high or a reasonable price, which is always welcome since I tend to make good offers myself. Last night a guy offered me 2k for a major death magic rune, and I told him that was too high and sold it for around half of that. The night before someone offered me 3k for a zealous axe halt, and I took it... I did ask them if they were sure, and they were happy to offer that for it and pleased to get it.
So taking offers can be beneficial under the right circumstances. If there's a specific price I have in mind, I'll post a higher price than I want in the listing and then add "or best offer" afterwards. That usually works out well for trying to get a specific price on something.
But when I just post the price in the listing, I rarely get inquiries. And if they ask and I tell them a definite price, most of them just say, "ok, nvmd" and move on. When I whisper back that I'm open to negotiation, then they usually will make a counter offer. So just asking for an offer upfront avoids all that hassle.
My two cents... or make an offer.
