Hello. I'm currently running GW on only 256 MB of RDRAM on a Dell 8200 series. I am planning on eventually upgrading to 784MB but until I can afford to I am looking for any performance improvement I can get.
I found the thread about maximizing page filing to be very helpful.
What I'm wondering is if there are any safe freeware or shareware programs out there that can safely minimize my miscellaneous applications before running guildwars so as to improve performance. Any help would be much appreciated.
RAM-saving scripts?

I don't use those programs as I have 1.5gig, so i couldn't help you out there.
As for improving performance, shutting down all your non needed programs that run on startup and can normally be seen sitting in the bottom right hand corner of the start bar. Close them down and this will free up memory, other than that, not much you can really do with 256mb of ram.
The pagefile is a good start, but i would think that is as far as you can go. I can only think the Memory programs either close down non needed files and apps, or they use some sort of file swapping systems themselves to make it look as though you have more memory than you really do.
As such, the only real improvement is from upgrading memory.

Increasing your paging file and upgrading your RAM is pretty much all that you can do.
Also make sure to disable any antivirus software while running Guild Wars, and make sure that you scan for spyware on a regular basis with Spybot or Hijackthis (both can be found easily with Google).

you could press CTRL+ALT+DELETE and go to processes and delete all the processes by your computer that say "your computer name here" under user except fprotsvc and gw. That could save memory, but pagefile requires a processor that can access it on the fly. Otherwise, it may lag trying to acess it if your processor is slow.

I was hoping to avoid going through the task manager and ending processes every time I boot the game. Not sure if it will even improve performance enough to bother with. Worth a try I guess though.
Thanks for all the responses!
