I was wondering what everyones first characters profession will be. Most of my friends are going to be Rangers. I'm thinking warrior right now. Just curious.

Ranger/Warrior (Thief-esque), here. If how my character's fared in the BWEs is anything to go by, sexy damage output while being nigh invulnerable in brawls, then I'll certainly be continuing that build into retail. Bo-shibbly.

When you have say a Warrior/Ranger does that just mean you are mixing their skills? I've been seeing the combination things everwhere and I wasn't sure if that was what that meant.

Just not sure yet. I've got 4 level 12 or above characters that I've used, and I've enjoyed using them all. I'll definitely have a Necro, since my pre-order package from CompUSA specifies the Bone Idol as the special in-game item it bestows, but I don't think that profession will be my first choice. I've used a Mes/Ranger quite a bit, but with the myriad of skill/spell/attribute combinations possible in GW, I feel like I've only just scratched the surface of what can REALLY be done with just this, or any, of my characters. Just like a "box of chocolates."

W/R, or W/M, depending on how all my preorder friends want to arrange our items.

That refers to the ability to combine two professions, and their commenserate skills and abilities, into any one character you create, with one profession as primary, and the other secondary.

Thanks Marksmann, thats what I thought, just wasn't sure. In that case I would like an opinion on what would go good with Warrior as main. Keep in mind most of my group will be rangers as main, I'm thinking elementalist.

Alot would depend on what you intend to do in GW and how you intend to do it. Player vs. player (PVP)/guild vs. guild (GVG) style contests might be better served with certain character/skill combos, as opposed to what you'd do in player vs. environment (PVE) style play. The "Unbalanced" thread in the Riverside Inn forum area is a very good read to illustrate this. Check it out, but beware Ensign's biting narratives...he can be brutal...illuminating, concise, and to the point, but brutal.

My main character is a E/R, but I think when it comes out I'll turn him into a E/Me. I like the spells that drain life from an enemy quickly (firestorm and conjure phantasm) while also recovering heath (aura of restoration and that mesmer life drain one that I can't remember the name of). It just matches my play style.

The first character I will probably focus on making is my Ranger/Warrior. The rest it really depends on how many slots we will have for release. I will likely also have E/N, W/Mo, and Mo/?. The real question is which will be male and which will be female?

mesmer warrior yeah...but I have a selection of other builds reserved for members of the guild, I plan to be able to play a number of builds...depending on what is in short supply in the clan and the playing style that is required.

I'm surprised to see so many people going necro.

Mesmer/Monk. Nothing quite as nice as slamming DOTs on a baddy, draining all of their energy, and putting your new energy into healing your whole team

EDIT: Monk is important to have because monk can work with anything more or less. I want my PvP uber builds to have skills unlocked!

Taranis that's a great link especially with all the new players, new to forums (like myself) that are about to execute a massive onslaught of random redundancy of new questions via new threads of the same question while those who can answer (and get rid of the redundant threads) are playing GuildWars

If the Ranger remains as good as he was during the March beta, he will surely be the most popular (as the poll is seeming to show).

And so: I'll be a Ranger/Elementalist (i just can't stop casting spells! it's so addicting! please help!) due to it's incredibly superior armor without any sort of slightly remote drawback. Well maybe it's not THAT great.....ok I just like shooting a bow.......ok OK it's the dance! Break it down now!

I plan on going with an Elementalist/Monk for my primary character, and then most likely Mesmer/Ranger for my secondary.

I did the same! Love Fire Magic and Axe Mastery! He's one bad dude! I love warrior as a primary but thats always been my favorite... up front where all the action is!

Still got others I'm thinking of doing but I've also got a toon in Pre-Seared Ascalon that is a Ranger/Mesmer! Pretty mean little lady! She'll be fantastic once I focus more time on her and get her past lvl 3!

Elementalist/Monk. What's interesting is that there's always an opportunity to be 100% Monk on critical situations....

Mesmer/Monk sounds interesting too...

Probably Elementalist/Mesmer. I have a friend who has been anxiously awaiting the game's release for as long as I have, and he plans on going with warrior/ranger. When we team up, he'll take on the physical enemies while I handle the spellcasters. What can I say? For as long as I've been a roleplaying geek (20+ years), I've been a sucker for magick.

I played W/N in the bwe, so I'll most likely change it up a bit even though it was reasonably good. I saw lots of need for a healer, maybe monk/elemetalist.

my first profession was necro, so i voted that, but i HATED it. my fav is warrior. so your first choice isnt your best, the teachers lie.(they allways tell me that your first answer is the best answer, and then they tell me to check my answers its lke telling me ive done all i can, then go do more!) well just saying that this isnt poll for fav professions (just incase someone.....cant read) and yes my firt was necro but Warrior > ranger + monk! (my 2 least fav professions )

Ranger...hands down.

Assuming that there will only be four characters I can make on the account.
(that will be the final tally I mean)
My intention is to make a ranger then explore different secondaries with the other slots.

Ranger (pure), Ranger/Mesmer, Ranger/Monk, and Ranger/ (Necro or Warrior..probably necro though)

Ranger (pure). That's an interesting choice. I haven't hadn't heard anything much about people not taking a second profession, but now I think about it I don't see why they would have to take two.

I was an Elementalist in the E34E event and I haven't played since.
I plan to have Elementalist primary on my first character but I haven't decided my secondary yet.

For the February Beta, I had wanted to be a Ranger/Monk. However, I was a newb at the time, and didn't know my a** from a hole in the ground. So I ended up not getting my Monk secondary and was just the Ranger primary.

I was somewhat embarassed too, because in the March event I found the trainer in no time; turns out I just had decided to skip out on the actually quest where you get the secondary profession in the Feb. event, so I'm happy I guess that I actually tried to do a lot of the quests in the March event.
