I have played a few massive multiplayer games, and there are a few suggestions I would like to offer. Feel free to weigh in on them.
First, a global auction system. An announcement is made that "X" item is up for sale, people can then bid on it and it runs for like 15 seconds or 20, winning bidder recieves the item via my second suggestion.
Second, a mail delivery system, where you can send items through a mail system to other players.
Third, Guildhall storage...a common request.
Fourth, Player Owned Housing.
Fifth, player owned merchants or stores.
Casinos, banks with interest, mounts, areas with puzzles to solve in order to progress, more buildings.
A few suggestions...

- Even if they didn't allow us to send items... it would be good to allow us to leave offline messages for people to collect from mail boxes or NPCs in town. Yes its very WoW like, but it would be a handy feature.
- it is common, and should be added.
- Don't really see the point of this idea... where would these houses go?
- Again don't see the point, NPCs do the job find... just add more types of NPCs like "Rune Trader".
- They removed Casinos for a good reason, but have stated they may add a Gambling NPC... mounts are pointless in this game and I would like to see new mini-games added like Chess or checkers.
Great Gjl
Auctioning isn't really essential. What is essential, however, is a rune trader, and you can find the justification for that here:

There used to be an offline message inbox during the WPEs, but they were removed for one reason or another. A pity really, but I suppose I can understand Anet trying to streamline their bandwidth/storage costs.
I've never really understood player housing, since they tend not to offer much practical purpose apart from storage, and I find they're used mainly by people to perpetuate their elitist attitudes. Either way, it isn't going to happen since it's too big a technical challenge to be feasible. The only updates that are going to happen before the expansion are small but noticeable changes, not cumbersome updates that will hardly affect the game for the majority.
