Necro skill: Summon Raven (or something)
Rieselle
I think necro's really need a skill like this (I'm sure other people have thought of it before, but what the hey.):
Summon Raven: Unaligned Skill. 15 Energy Cost, 1 sec cast time. 10 secs recharge.
Summon a lvl 5 Raven to attack enemies. The raven is not undead, and will LEAVE A CORPSE. The raven is green and can be targeted and killed by your team's attacks.
Whether it will be overpowered or not can be determined by fiddling with the numbers. (I'd prefer it wasn't made elite... it should be available fairly early)
They key point, of course, is to give a necro an expensive way to generate a corpse when there are none available. But creative uses like making a mini-suicide bomber by casting death nova on it, and stuff like that will be fun. Or a w/n using the raven as a fast way to teleport to an enemy's location. (since the raven flies more quickly than he can run.) And it would help a Necro with wells become a more viable healing option.
A Mes/N could use echoes and arcane echoes and be pretty cool too, with every Summon Undead spell, get 4 undead before a battle begins
What do ya think?

Anyway a way to get a corpse without killing something, yes. A raven, no.

I do think it should be a summon mob of some kind tho - not just a corpse popping out of nowhere, and not a Glyph that makes the next corpse spell not need a corpse. Because summoning something that can run around, pester enemies, and be killed to provide a corpse provides more interesting and creative ways to use them :)

I have suggested this before I think but the only responses I got were that it would imbalance the ranger pet system. It might, but ranger have better armor

can you say "Diablo 2" druids can summon ravens :P
I have kept this idea in the back of my mind for quite a while now and i think it has found its place...
Defile Ground: Defiles the Ground around target enemy, and foes that die while atop this ground will automatically summon a masterless lvl ? Bone Horror.

Just read a thread that I think would make this too easily exploitable.
Say you get an E/N.
The E side gets a high amount of energy storage (10+)
While the countdown is going the N summons ravens/whatever.
They kill them (since they're targettable and succeptable (sp?) to team attacks.
Summon bone fiends.
So?
Have bone army of 20+ bone fiends by the time the door opens.
Hmmm!

Completely undoable by a single Necromancer, as you could only get five before the gate opened, and it would cost 40 energy for each Fiend.

You act as if the game is single player.

my post means to NOt implement the raven idea, but rather the defile ground one...and btw, masterless means exactly that...THEY HAVE NO MASTER so they attack you, your party or enemies at their own whim.

ok that's fine but I wasn't talking to you.

Errr... please don't hijack my thread with personal arguments :P
Do we agree that necros need an expensive way to generate a corpse when there are few available?
If so, let's think up of a way to make it useful but not overpowered.
Make it cause exhaustion? Up the energy cost? Increase the recharge time so that a person can only really summon 1 raven in the countdown? The defile ground idea is interesting but doesn't serve the purpose I'm aiming at. I'm not purely talking about minions - I'm also talking about all the other spells that involve corpses, which are often more interesting

This seems pretty silly. Why would they let you just make corpses on a whim? If "summon out of nowhere" pets were introduced, I doubt they would leave a corpse, though they probably would be somewhat disposable.

I wouldn't mind the raven idea *IF* it wasn't targetable by the necro or his/her own team mates. To generate a corpse the critter should have to die at the hands of enemies.
If people do not like the raven (although I think it was a good animal choice) then why not a harpy or something along those lines? Frankly I like the raven myself. Vulture would work too.

Or, here is another option entirely. Perhaps necros could get a skill (elite?) called "trap essence". Instead of exploiting a corpse in teh normal way, a necro should be able to take a corpse and trap its essence. Each essence will take up a full, non-stackable slot in the necros inventory. These essences can then be dropped (and are assigned to the necro so that no others can pick it up.) Necros can then cast spells on these essences as they would on a corpse. This is less powerful than the ranger idea, but does give the necro something. Perhaps the essences could even be throwable.
---
Just as note, I always thought that the way the necros are implimented are a little bit off in the first place. I think that the power of the necro skill should not only vary with the necro's attributes but also with the level of the dead enemy.
