Psst...Kaiwyn, I hope you didn't just "drop" your Ident kit, because you can sell it back to an outfitter and here is the good part if you use all but the last "charge" of the Ident kit (or Salvage kit) then sell it back to the outfitter you will get 50% value for it! So, if I remember correctly a basic salvage kit cost 100 gold and had 25 uses (charges) and after I used 24 of them I'd take it back to the outfitter and sell it for 50 gold, now that's a good deal.

Personally, I couldn't wait to get the hell out of that place. Coming from the other BWEs, it irritated me to no end that I had to run around to get my second profession and some starting skills. Not to mention the fact that a lot of the stuff felt like it wasn't implimented correctly. I ran into 3-4 missions that were just uncompletable. And then it was a pain to find the correct trainers... I got out of there at like level 3 or 4 and never looked back.

The same way you would dye your armor - double click the rune, then click on the armor.

Thanks, Loviatar. That clears up that issue for my guild. I'd read that info in the "Rune Listing" area, but it didn't say HOW to get them, just what they are and what they're for. So, thanks again.

I'll madly rush to 20, and farm because of GvG. As balanced as it is, items do make a difference, specially to warriors and rangers, which I am both.

I'll probably have one character in pre-searing for a long time, the last time I made a new character, he was level 10 before he left the academy. I've seen level 12s though, so I guess there's some of us who really like exploring.

On a side note, Tyria aka Pre-Seared Ascalon is probably godly compared to the rest of the current game enviroment wise. It's open, and has a much higher realism feel to it then any mission from ascalon I've played. Ascalon missions look cool, but when you've played it a bit, it's just a darn maze with only 1-2 paths, all the terrain and doodads are just there for looks, it's not like you can use streaming technology to blow the darn sand away or something, or create a crater with the catapult. Nope, it's how the movement works in this game, by railing. Tyria on the other hand, at least lets you move around, and the NPCs there at least have more scripts to them. It'd be nice to see the bandits have at least some organising like the white mantle watch tower guys. It'd be awesome to have some bandits try to "mug" you when your a bit far out. Point being, Tyria is way better then the rest of the game in terms of enviroment.

Get a partner, northlands is fun. Course, bit suicidal if you do it right away, I don't really see any real way level 1s can take on the charr.

I read the page on Rune Listings...can they only be applied to CRAFTED armour? Being still in Pre-sear I am getting bits of armour from collectors. Will I have to get armour crafted as soon as I get into the Academy area?

From what I've read, Kaiwyn, the runes can be applied to any armor you have, but since I've not had any experience with them, I can't say for sure. You will be able to get armor crafted in the post-searing world and you'll just have to see if the choices will be any better than what equipment you acquired in pre-searing Ascalon. I think there was a crafter in pre-searing Ascalon, also, but his stock was pretty basic stuff, not worth using gold on.

Collectors armour IS crafted armour, since only you can wear it.

How does the armour you can get from the collectors in pre-sear Ascalon compare to any armor you can get crafted from the guy on the second level in the town, and if you apply a rune to a piece of armor after the academy...can you get the rune out again to use on another piece when you change your armour?

I found that what the collectors gave me was at least as good as, better in some cases, than what was offered in town. Now about the runes being transferrable....I'll have to listen for that answer from someone else who has experience with them. Using the runes is something I'm really looking forward to doing this next weekend, since I missed out on them completely in all of the other BEW's. I've also got a couple of rings that I have no clue on how to use, and so will be trying to figure them out, also. Do you know anything about how to use rings?

I've got a level 15 warrior trapped in pre-sear Ascalon. Can't enter the Academy or leave the public areas of Ascalon. So if you're thinking of taking your time in pre-sear Kaiwyn, don't get imprisoned like me... don't waste your life, it's just too short,... way too short.

I left Pre-Searing too early, didn`t get my belt pouch made. Wished I would have stayed a while longer but I`ve got a level 7 Wa/Mo in Ascalon. I`ve done a few of the missions and worked the Explorable areas but I don`t venture too far as I`m saving it for release time. I`ve played all but one of the week-end events and am looking forward to this coming event. If you get up to Ascalon look me up and I`ll take you around. I usually grab 2 henchmen and cut my own path but rather enjoyed the one party I joined last BWE although the Necro who was leading was in a bit of a hurry. My game name is Olfin Bedwere (cookie for anyone who knows where it comes from). I`m also an aging gamer at 43.

It amazes me how much Ascalon and the N Wall terrain has changed since that first event.

I am 40 and LOVE pre-sear Ascalon. I have 2 characters there now (El/Mes and Nec/Monk) and one in the Academy (War/El). I hope that more zones and quests are added to it. The scenery is beautiful, and it's pretty challenging depending on what places you visit.

You ought to check out the Armor Compendium on the site here. It's pretty up to date, except last I heard they got rid of level requirements to wear armor, so now it's just crafting material and gold cost.

Starter armor (for casters) is 5 AL and the collectors give you 7AL armor. It's not a noticeable improvement, but it looks different at least. If you plan to spend a lot of time in pre-searing ascalon, it's not a bad time investment. However if you're trying to rush through and get to the next part of the game, you're better off buying the first set you find in Ascalon City (post Searing). You can get 15 or 30 AL sets there, wait til you make it to Yak's Bend. Upgrading your armor makes a big difference.

As for Runes:
Runes can be added to any armor (including starter) to the best of my knowledge.
Runes can be salvaged from armor, provided it's not starter (or collector) armor. Use an expert kit. You may get some common crafting materials, or rare materials, or the rune, but you have a chance of recovering it.

Starter armor cannot be salvaged, no matter how hard you try. It's destined for the trash can.

As for rings:
Last BWE they got rid of the Ring system. They used to be there to learn skills from skill charms. You had to buy a skill charm (either from an NPC vendor or another player), then double click the ring and single click on the charm of the skill you wanted to learn. But as I said, as of last BWE, the skill charm system is no more. There is no way to make charms, and no one to buy them from, and rings are useless without charms. I guess you could put it into a museum this BWE, but with the wipe coming up, they'll be gone soon anyways.

Thanks. I have been to the site and checked it out thoroughly. It is mostly Greek to me as I don't even know what the anacronym AL stands for. It also looks like you get only one armour choice from each crafter.

I will remember that about the runes. Thank you. Best to save them till you have a decent armour set I guess.

When I got something from the collectors, I just left my starter armour on the ground. It looked to me that each collector really had only one item I could use. I would have liked to be able to get at least 3 usable items from them or be able to keep bringing them the stuff they were looking for ...for maybe a few gold pieces.

I'm just happy that I'm not the oldest or slowest player in the game That was otherwise the impression I usually get when playing... Other players have been rushing ahead, especially in the recent beta events. Probably because there have been less new players, and many old players have wanted to get to Lion's Arch or lvl 20 before the end of the event.

After the release I believe things well be less rushed.

My first character is going to solve every quest he can, and explore every area he can, in his way through the game. My later characters are going to take reasonable shortcuts, just doing missions and "important" quests. At least until the expansion gets here.

Way to go Deagol. I am probably the oldest and slowest at 56. I like to try out the skills from all the trainers in turn.....and do all the quests before deciding which second profession I will stick with. It gives me the opportunity to see how my character works with skills of a Necro or Ranger, and gives me some cool quests to do before I settle on, say, Monk. I like exploring every inch of every map (I also take notes...ok so I am a bit obsessive compulsive) and building up my gold supply. I don't think I'd ever be able to rush a character through a game though. It wouldn't be fun to me.

What I AM going to do as soon as I log onto the game is bring up my Ranger/Monk and allocate those points I didn't know I was getting! LOL! At level 7 I should have a few racked up. I am also going to fiddle with the Edit Interface so my weapons bar doesn't overlap my skills bar and I don't keep accidentally clicking on an empty weapons slot when I am trying to heal myself in battle! LOL! ....senility sucks

AL stands for Armor Level. I understand that the guides can be a bit esoteric, sometimes the people with PhD's forget what it's like to be just starting out. I will look for a list of commonly used acronyms and terms in Guild Wars; if and when I find one, I'll add it to this post.

Hey. This forum is much better than the other one I used to go to. Especially because users here are not whiney 'lil bugs.

Anyway, I enjoyed many of the quest in PSA. One of my favorates is the gift quest. If you watch the dialouge between the Prince and his loyal captain (Or whatever he was. I don't remember) the captain assures the prince that he will find the perfect gift for his highness's gal. But what is the first thing the trustworthy captain does? He asks YOU to do it. We can learn a lot from that captain.

I found the feather and will go back to find the pearl...is that it? Has anyone finished that quest? If there is something else...what and where is it. Once I accidentally went to Althea and told her about the quest and she got really mad and I was unable to complete it...it just ended.
