I've been selling unidentified golden giant boots for 12-15k each. A few of my customers have messaged me saying they were major runes and I was selling Pre-Patch items. I know it's a gamble when they buy them but what can I do to avoid further persecution? I don't want to get reported for selling items i find. I identified one to figure this out and I got a major too. They said that after the "Patch" all goldens are superiors. Is this true?

Tell them to screw off, it's not like it matters in the long run. You are selling something, it's not your fault if they are not satisfied with it. BTW, where do you get giant's boots anyway?

After the patch, all rare salvages are superior OR major, so you are doing nothing wrong. The patch got rid of the chances of them being a minor (which was really annoying).

yeah, I got majors out of a gold item... don't sweat it. Tell them you're selling "as is" which means unidentified. All you guarantee is that it's golden, that they are indeed boots, and that they're far too big to be worn by the average Sam.

Yes. Its Major OR Superior from rare salvage items after the patch.

I don't understand why people don't salvage an un-ided piece before selling it. Poeple would be willing to pay more for a rune that they know they'll need, rather than a gamble, right?

Lots of people don't realize that the chance of getting a Superior out of a gold isn't all that high... maybe like 70%... if even that good. And even fewer still realize that getting a Major out of a purple is about 50%.

Right now, given the amount of ignorance still present in the community, people can sell the items for large profit margins with no risk to themselves (if they try to salvage the un-ID'd, they can fail and get nothin' for their effort).

True. The problem is you're not certain to get a rune. And not all runes sell for over 15k (which is average price for an unIDed yellow giant's boot.) So you can either take the certain route and get the money, walking away 15k or so richer, or risk it in hopes of getting something bigger.

Want to unlock runes for PvP. If i remember correctly, you do not "unlock" new runes by simply possessing them; you have to ID some random gigantic boots for that

With the new update, whenever you salvage a piece of un-IDed armor, it shows up as an unidentified rune of known quality and class. I.e. if I salvage a gold pauldron, I might get an unidentified superior elementalist rune. Whoever buys it can ID it and unlock it.

And anyone with enough common sense would pay much more for a 100% superior rune of their class than a gold piece of armor which may or may not yield a superior and even then has a 1 in 6 chance of being of their class.

The only upside I see to selling a rare salvage piece is that you don't run the risk of salvaging it into tanned hide squares (yes, it's happened to me a lot).

the problem is that you fail to salvage gold armor ALOT, or atleast I do. 3/4 gold armors yesterday = iron.

You're likely to get a Major off those salvage items, so if you want to salvage without the ID you'll probably get a major and then you just lost thousands, if you still want to sell it that is.

This is what I do now. Sometimes I get boned and it turns to leather or a major in an attribute nobody wants, but you can aslo turn it into a superior vigor or absorption and get a LOT more than 13K for it. Does it completely even out? Don't know, don't care. I've got more money than I need already and I don't have anyone bitching at me about not getting what they thought they should. No real losers doing it this way.

I know it's already been answered, but if anyone else tries to tell you this, quote them the actual patch note (I added emphasis to key words):

"Assured that rare armor drops will always have either a major or superior rune, not a minor rune."

A buddy of mine found a purple max damage hammer with no mods on it yesterday. I though they did away with purple items with no mods?

No, they just did away with runeless purple (and gold) ARMOR items.

So what is the consensus? Is there a higher rate to get a superior out of gold armor before you salvage it?

Another thing, I salvaged a gold armor and got a minor unid'd rune yesterday. That goes against the supposed patch.

I salvaged a gold armor yesterday and got a major beast mastery. A buddy of mine salvaged a gold armor on the same day and got a superior marksmanship. It's hard to say what the ratio is, but I haven't gotten a superior yet out of 3 golds I salvaged. Luck of the draw I suppose but if the majority of superiors selling for 120 gold is any indication, it's not that big of a deal to unlock everything.

Still way too small of a sample to know the truth in any case for me.
