Crafted Dye

During the last beta, I crafted a few vials of dye, hoping that I would get...well...vials of dye. What I got though, was a rare crafting material that was called a vial of dye, but didn't appear to have any use. They couldn't be applied to items like the dye that you find in loot or buy from traders. So what does one do with these? Is there a way to turn them into actual vials of dye?

Sure it wasn't a Vial of Ink? Not to say that you can create them by combining Vials of Dye because I don't know the answer to that, but Vials of Ink are crafting materials for tattoos.

Are you sure it just wasn't the *blanking on name* Vial? I know that I had gone through the Outfitters a few times and remember seeing something about a Vial, but I don't think I ever saw the option to craft Vials of Dye. I didn't look that hard though, so somebody else would know for sure.

Edit: I think it was Kha's Vials of Ink that you may have looked at and mistaken for Dyes...

How does one craft dye anyways? Or are you guys talking about just mixing dyes together to conjure something up?

I assumed that's what he meant by crafting dye (since he was aiming to combine vials of dye and get vials of dye). So that's what my post was referring to.

That was probably it. The crafting materials involved were plant fibers and a tempered glass vial. If so, I don't know how I didn't notice that it was ink, not dye.

Sort of on the same topic...

When you add dye to your armor, do you just add another of the same color to make it darker/lighter or mix and match to get various other colors?

Just been wondering on how to do that forever and found a post that will let me ask my stupid question now...

Never heard of adding more then one colour, or of this weird vial of dye that doesn't work.

I've seen characters with different degrees a dye, so there must be some sort of explanation. Perhaps when you apply dye it has a random shade of that colour....who knows. Hopefully someone sheds some colour on this (heh heh).

You can add more than one dye to an item and the colours mix.

Do the colors lighten/darken if you add the same color to the already colored item? or does it have to be a different colored dye completely?

I don't know. I would expect them to darken though. In more technical terms, become more saturated.

I stumbled accross the same notion when I made it to the mountains but after closer inspection it was a vile of INK that it was allowing me to create not Dye, so I now have a vile of Ink that I have NO idea what to do with.

I was able to "stack" dye but again since it ONLY seems to color the highlights of your Armor, clothes or weapons it did not make much of a difference. I have not tried to mix colors yet though...hmmmm
