Question about builds and learning skills

Just wondering how builds affect what skills you have access to. Do you have to train a certain attribute to a certain point in order to access a skill? Or do you have access to all of your professions skills and just don't use the ones you havn't trained in very well?

Also It looks like every profession has a TON of different skills/spells to manage. Do you have multiple bars to switch between and access all your spells? Or do you have to pick which skills/spells you want to use on a particular mission and prepare those only?

Thanks in advance for the info, havn't had a chance to play yet and just want to get the mechanics down so I have atleast a small clue what I'm doing when I start.

Builds affect everything you have access to. Depending upon the primary and secondary professions you decide to use... you will only have attribute points and skills available for those professions. You can't build up another profession if you aren't playing them with that character.

You have 8 slots for your choice of skills you want to use. Before you go into any mission you MUST decide what skills you will use because, once you're in, there is no changing until the mission is over.

Hope that helps in some small way...

Yeah I meant does how much you put in an attribute of a profession control which of those attributes skills you have access to. Like if I'm a Elementalist/Mesmer, do I have to put a certain amount into fire or air in order to get all of the associated skills/spells?

Don't quote me on this but from all my play that would be a resounding NO!

The more points you put in to the particular skill makes the skills/spells stronger as you keep adding to it. So, if its a low number than your skills are going to be rather weak (thats fine if you're just starting out) but as you progress in your levels you want to stay within about three attributes and build all of them to make yourself a powerful character which, in turn, makes your skills pretty damn powerful.

One thing you might want to watch out for though...

Even though you can access all the skills from different trainers throughout the game, you need to be mindful of your energy/adrenaline (or both). These become major issues. If you don't have enough energy/adrenaline and have some skills that require more than what you've got... then you can't use them unless you have spells that help you steal/gain more to allow you to use the greater skills that compliment your characters.

That was just an afterthought that I figured you'd be interested in knowing about as well.

Well I'm quoting you...
You don't put points into skills, you either have a skill or you don't.
You put points into attributes, and they make your skills better.
I think you did know what you were talking about but just used the wrong words at the beginning there, because the end is right.

Just one point to clarify there, adrenaline builds up during combat. As far as I know there isn't a limit to how much you can have. As long as you've been in combat for long enough you should build up enough adrenaline to use any adrenaline based skill.

Thanks for the updates on my typo problems spiritofcat.

Yeah, I did know what I was talking about, and thank you for clarifying so I can get my terminology straight! I shoulda remembered that about adrenaline too... so its just the energy portion you need to worry about that I mentioned on my last post!

Sometimes I just hate to be quoted!
