Memory Issue
Arothian
GW keeps crashing with memory reading errors. Anyone know a good program to stress test my memory?
I haven't had issues with any other programs I am running so I would like to see if it is just Guild Wars or if my memory has seen its better days.
I have two dimms of Kingston HyperX DDR-2700.
Thanks in advance, I couldn't find anything from searching.

MemTest is a good program. There's plenty of others, but for what you're looking for, thats all you'll need.
Just google for it because I'm not sure if linking is allowed.

I agree with the memtest. You'll have to put it on a CD or floppy and boot from it - then run the test for a while and see what errors you turn up.

hello, i also have experienced crash problems memory related like this:
*--> Crash <--*
Exception: c0000005
Memory at address 00000001 could not be read
App: Gw.exe
ProgramId: 1
Build: 10899
When: 6/8/2005 23:09:49
Flags: 0
my specs are: athlon 2400+ 1gb ram (already stress tested for hours with memtest, zero errors, even while multitasking a lot), geforce 6800 128 vram tried a lot of drivers, from older versions to the latest, even tried to use lowest res-lowest quality settings), asus motherboard a7n8x with latest bios and latest agp gart drivers, sound blaster live! with latest drivers (also tried disabling sound) and 450W power supply, with 17a for the yellow cable (+12v)
i run windows xp professional with sp1 and latest directx (of course).
i tried even a lot of bios configurations with timings, disabling agp fastwrite etc, i don't really know what else i can do to finally play the game that keep randomly crashing with the same error every 5-20 minutes...
please if anyone got some suggestions i would really appreciate them, and sorry if my english is not too good, but it's not my mother tongue.

Microsoft makes one...
http://oca.microsoft.com/en/windiag.asp
http://oca.microsoft.com/en/mtinst.exe
And it's fairly nice.
If you know someone whos a Fedora Core user, thier Disk 1 (if CD) or the DVD has a command on it when you boot to it. Type "memtest86" (without the quotes of course) and it runs a better test then microsofts however it is ALOT longer.
http://www.memtest86.com/
If you have any bad sectors on it. The stick it worthless. This is a common occurance with generic RAM.

thanks for the links, i'll try them too, but using memtest which was suggested before i didn't run into any error as i already said, so i don't think my ram is ruined because with every other game or application i never had any problems... only with guildwars

already tried that before, to no luck
Principa Discordia
Pendr4gon, I assume that you have already tried taking out each stick and leaving the "other" stick in? One of them could have gone faulty.

Does XP Pro have an SP2 update? If so, why don't you try that too.
Another thing maybe worth trying. With your ASUS Nforce 2 board, try rolling back the drivers to the original ones that came with the board. If no change there, go back to the latest, but try removing the NVidia SW IDE Driver. I have read somewhere here that it can cause problems and stick to the Windows IDE Driver instead. See if this has any impact on your machine.

Just thought of this option too.
I have pretty much a very similar system to you. Except I run an X800pro and I use the onboard sound for the A7N8X Deluxe mobo. Is yours the deluxe version? If so, try completely removing the sound blaster card and it's drivers and see if anything improves from there.
I'm just trying to think of things that are just that little bit different from my machine, as I don't have any problems what so ever.
The only OS difference is I run XP Home with SP2.

thanks for the replyes, however:
Principa Discordia: i have tried that, but they all seem to work fine (fortunatly, cause i wouldn't have money to buy another stick right now )
Dirkiess: yes win xp does have sp2, but some of my friends told me they had a LOT of problem by upgrading to the latest sp, so i decided to keep my sp1 and just update the security hotfixes as they come out.
Also tried removing the IDE driver, but still no luck
Reguarding the motherboard, i don't have the deluxe version, i got the first version that come out (which is told to have lots of problem, even if so far i must say i never had any... exept maybe now with guild wars), the on board audio was disabled, i tried to remove my sound blaster, and tried enabling and leaving the game completely without any audio, still no luck
I am starting to think that maybe the motherboard is the problem, maybe the loss of data is because of the ram slots, and not the sticks.
Or maybe the ram overheat (but i even tried to downcloak it) arghhhh this make me so mad, i can run fine any other game, even much more demanding then guild wars without problems...

In another thread, the guy was having all sorts of memory and crash problems. He changed the memory and it fixed all his problems. His memory had a lower Voltage than his board would support.
