Greetings GuildWarsGuru and Visitors,

Over the past month I have been working on introducing the first (to my knowledge), unofficial Guild Wars Wiki into the community. As with any WIKI/Resource the assistance of community members is vital. So, I would like to invite everyone to either simply browse, or become an editor for this milestone project.

Quote:
From http://www.GuildWar.us - You can find out about outposts, skills, quests, npc, items, material and more resources on various Guild Wars topics. GuildWar.us is intended to cover most aspects of the Guild Wars computer game, providing help and how-to information.

This is a Wiki, to enable users to add or edit the content. Feel free to use your knowledge to help grow the GuildWar repository. If you come across an empty page you will automatically be presented with the edit page. Please take a moment and write down what you know about that topic, and normally another will expand the page.

Now, I understand that I might get a flame by asking for assistance. In that case, shame on you! I do not intend to steal members, nor resources. All content is licensed under the Creative Commons, share-alike.

Hopefully a few visitors will enjoy the freedom of the wiki environment, and this will equal a Win-Win for every community member.

Regards,

Czar pHanGuYe [War]

What does WIKI stand for, actually?

Btw, great stuff on that page, I'm sure, but I can't seem to reach it?

from http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Wiki - A wiki enables documents to be written collectively (co-authoring) in a simple markup language using a web browser. A single page in a wiki is referred to as a "wiki page", while the entire body of pages, which are usually highly interconnected via hyperlinks, is called "the wiki"—in effect, a very simple relational database.

A defining characteristic of wiki technology is the ease with which pages can be created and updated. Generally, there is no review before modifications are accepted. Most wikis are open to the general public without the need to register any user account. Sometimes session log-in is requested to acquire a "wiki-signature" cookie for autosigning edits. More private wiki servers require user authentication.

Thanks for moving this topic, rather then deleting it. The other Wiki Project out is more of a 'side-dish' compared to a main feature on the site.

I've been using my alias since 1997, don't worry I'm not trying to be you and I really (REALLY) doubt anyone would confuse you and I.

There are other Wiki's other there (your's is, by FAR the nicest to look at!).

They can be found here:
Sacred Dragon Although this is depricated, and all content is moving to GuildWiki and our friends over at Photics.com have their own wiki.

As a community can we all agree that 1 Wiki would be bettern than 4? Kind of like 1 Forum would be bettern than the 4+ that exist today.

Thank you ALL for your contributions to the collective knowledge of the game

Dear Terrormisu,

Thanks for the reply, I browsed these other wiki projects and indeed the GuildWiki one is pretty impressive, although still very young, and Photics’s wiki seems a bit “side project”.

I have heard the response of there is already another wiki in town, and to be honest that is not going to discourage me. In fact I hope the others remain functional, a LOT of area in Guild Wars still has not been documented (and that bothers me).

I did not mean to discourage you at all. I am hoping that the numerous Wiki web masters will get together and agree that it is better for the community-at-large to have 1 central repository, and decide which wiki will live (the master wiki) and which others will point to the master wiki.

I agree, photics.com's wiki looks like it could go away and no one would notice. Sacred Dragon already merged with GuildWiki (and if you look at the change log I put some effort into populating Sacred Dragon).

What I don't want is to spend my time populating a wiki, only to have another wiki come along and be "the master wiki". I would much rather there be only one and support that one fully.

There is so much information on just the GWG forums, but it is scattered in various places (there are 2 elite skill location threads!). 'Tetris L' made a giant step forward and made this table of all the quests that give Skills as rewards. Now imagine if this table were in a wiki, where each skill was a link, each location was a link, and there were links to walkthroughs for each quest...That would be spectacular! And if all this information could integrate with the interactive map...wow

I believe it is possible, it will just take a lot of work, and I am leery to volunteer if there is a chance that all the effort will be lost.

Thank you, and I look forward to seeing what happens

I've done a ton of updates since last post, yet not many editors (maybe 1 so far).

Nice try, but Wiki is not an acronym. ;-)
