Korean BWE
Kiwi
Well on my XFire program I noticed that many people were playing Guild Wars. I asked one of my friends what was going on and he said there was a Korean Beta going on and if you go to a certain website you can get on it. Sure enough I was playing, it was in English too and everything was the same except that 99% of the players were Korean. Not really caring about how this happened, I played a full BWE.
Can someone explain why there was a Korean BWE going on and how I was able to enter it. I was to excited to take any notice in what I was doing.

I was aware of a Korean BWE going on, but most people had to change their systems into Korean before being able to enter. I'm a little surprised you were able to hop into it straight away.

All it took was an email and a password.

Anyone who played in that event using their regular account that wasn't supposed to be accessing it risks reprisal from Arena.net as they were aware of the problem and have been deciding what to do about it. (I have my sources and can not reveal them do to certain legal issues).

yep, i played in it also. the only difference I could see was the UI. It looks nice.

don't worry kiwi, notthing's going to happen. not sure what zaklex is talking about...
there's nothing on the korean gw site that says only people in korea can play. there's tons of koreans outside of korea that have/is currently playing gw on both korean servers and english servers. (many members of kor aren't in korea.) when the game comes out, i'll most likely have accounts on both.

Hi everyone.
Zak is right about the Korean beta in the access was only given to Koreans for reasons of the Korean tournament. It was rather easy to get a Korean account, yes.. but that doesn't mean that it was our event. There was still a bit of.. maneuvering required to get the account, no matter how small that "maneuvering" was..
That doesn't mean that ANet will storm down your doors.. but we should all be patient for now. The BWE is only two weeks away, after all..

It was an Open Event for Koreans, anybody could get in if they could type Korean, no key required.

Actually what you played in the Scandinavian BWE and Gailed posted about it last week. They weren't able to get into one of the normal BWE's due to key problems so they gave the Scandinavians their own BWE. However, it was only supposed to be open to Scandinavians and alphas (Hence why I was able to play ) however I doubt anything will happen to you for playing.
We at gwg were also hard at work updating skills quests etc.... due to being able to enter so look for some new content soon.

Also there names were in symbols, and I'm pretty sure Scandanavia doesn't use Korean symbols for names. Or maybe I'm dreaming and Scandavia happens to be in Asia.

I heard they riged the whole Country with Super magnets generated a "counter magnetic field" and floated it over. Now they can move to Play BWEs anywhere in the world.

Of course you weren't supposed to access it you bafoon! It was a KOREAN BETA! not a "Lets see who can find out how to get in" Beta! In my oppinion, everyone who even attempted to do this load of bullshit should have their acounts banned until retail... "Have fun in the Korean beta? Goooood... See you at release".

Another plus to moving scananavia is the Germans now want to extend the autobahn to Japan

Weezer sounds jealous, when the matter at hand pasted and did no harm.

Sounds like someone was a bit unnerved by what Kiwi did. Underage drinking and being a bit tipsy will do that to some people!
To err is... human? Kiwi (and all others that got in) I guarantee you that those that didn't play are jealous (Weezer proved that point) but mistakes happen! Hope you guys did have fun and we'll see you all on the 15th!

I was just passing along information I had received, nothing more, nothing less. Personally I don't hold a grudge against anyone that got in, it's not my place to lay blame on anyone or chastise(I didn't chastise, just pointed out that something might happen).
Dragon Bloodthirsty
I heard there was a BWE, tried to log on, and couldn't. That's the extent of it.
Did I ever say "I hate April Fool's Day" here? (No, but my friends had to hear it alot).
2 Weeks? That's, like, 1/18th of the gestation time of a human baby! IT'S TOO LONG, and I can't wait.....

Spooky
So.. this whole Korean event thing. Several times while it was happening, people tried to post instructions on how to do it. And each time it happened, I promptly shot them down. I realize that may seem callous - like "Hey, you can log in whenever you want, you don't know what it feels like to be going through withdrawls." I can safely say that, yes, I do know what it feels like. I've been doing this for about a year now, and most of that time was spent sitting on the outside, just the same as everyone else. So, I understand what it's like to want to be playing and yet, being unable to.
Why then - you might ask - would I consistently shoot down what people see as a 'glimmering mark of hope' ..? Well, the fact is, people outside of Korea were not supposed to be in that event. I would think that this would be common sense, considering the underhanded approach people had to use to get in - if they were supposed to be there, it would have been easy. This is not something ArenaNet wanted people doing. Next, consider our position - and what it is we do, as a fansite. Actively advocating something that ArenaNet is against is, to put it perhaps a tad too simply ... counterintuitive to what we hope to accomplish. It is hard to maintain good relations while doing something like that - as people have no doubt noticed, Gaile visits here fairly often. There are also other ArenaNet employees that stop by whether you realize it or not (though they themselves do not post.)
So, I hope you'll understand. We're not trying to stomp down on people because we can. We aren't being cruel. When the game is released in roughly 3 weeks from now, people aren't likely to remember that there was a little stretch of time that they couldn't play the beta for a few more days. People will be able to play through legitimate means, and everyone will be happy. In the long run, this is better for everyone.
I know it can be easy to feel slighted that this event .. and the tournament .. were not presented to us as well, but that was a decision on NCSofts part - not ArenaNet. All I can really do is just to say "Hang in there, baby" .. you know, like the poster with the cat and the tree?

Bah, it happens all the time. "Region Specific" betas and events are silly, yet I can understand why they exsist. I also understand that if someone wants to play in one of these events and they're not supposed they can still get in almost untraced very easily. I remember when Lineage 2 was in Beta a lot of people were getting fake "Korean Social Security IDs" and logging in that way.

This is a matter of morale.
I knew of this event, but because I respect Arenanet and their rule... I didn't want to join it.
That doesn't mean I don't fight for myself...
I would only take advantages of things when I have no respect toward the person/group or the rule itself.

I suggest we lock this thread Spooky. The past is the past, this site did what it did, and some people did what they did. No one needs to know, and everyone will forget in a few weeks. Continueing on or blaming people for playing or defending themselves for playing will only turn this into a heated discussion, one which I believe deters from the quality site you want.

Korea BWE was hard to get in bot not that cool to play afterwards. Lag was noticeable for me and there were not as much people ingame as in the last western BWE, at least I didn't find as many. PvP was not that high quality at all for me. It was fun, I had some time to finally explore the noob area a lil' bit more but I understand why NCSoft/ANet didn't want us to play - if it had been my first time in GW, my first impression of the game would have been much worse. Good for NCSoft was that I could at least use it to get one of my guildies IG so GW won another paying customer. *g*

Now they start offering advantages to one region or another, and don't expect people to take them at their word that they're welcome to play in whichever region they wish?
I not only respect the rules, I remember them. If you change the rules, make sure you give me advance notice, because I do remember what was said previously, and I do tend to take people at their word. No one told me ahead of time that the previous statements about me being welcome in whichever world I picked had been revoked.

Perhaps the best thing to do here is forget about it. It's now the 5th and FULL retail is coming out on the 27th for those who pre-ordered (pretty much anybody hanging around on the forums is already a fan and has pre-ordered anyways) So that leaves you 23 days to do your stuff. If you're in university take the time to start studying for your finals. If you're in high-school go to the gym or play outside. And if you got a full-time job and don't know what to do of your evenings, then buy a crappy 10$ game from the store and abuse it until the next beta or do your spouse a favor and bring him/her out.
The people who got in on the Korean Beta probably didn't have loads of fun anyways, I heard the PvP characters didn't have the 'Unlock All Skills' button which means that you'd bascially need to go through the entire PvE part. If you ask me PvE is outright horrible, sorry if ANet employees are viewing this but I just can't stand the level-fest grinding, and some missions are just too difficult unless you're running a very specific group (I like GW strictly for PvP btw).
So for those who didn't get in: stop bitching and do something better with your time. And for those who got in: that's a pretty dandy waste of time on characters that will get deleted anyways. No one said life was fair so deal with it. You whine cause you can't play a video game, think of the people who can't eat 3 square meals a day while most of you live on the fatest continent on the planet. Sorry to be harsh.

Maybe that kind of thing flies on other forums, but not here. Keep it respectful, or don't say it all.
