Novelty Items
DrSLUGFly
This came out of the Dwarven Ale thread, and Galatea mentioned that there should be more, so here we are in a new thread to suggest some small, cool, minimal effect items that you would like to see as money sinks/cool stuff (of course, the more of these there are, the more essential it is to increase Xunlai's storage space)
my contribution (already asked for ad nauseum but ignored because alone no novelty item has enough power to hold a thread onto page 1)
Spyglass!!!: I want to be able to look across the landscape and see things that are far away. Although I would be willing to pay 1 plat for this, I would like to see it available cheap, like maybe 3 or 4 hundred, since it would be most useful early in game. It's a novelty with no warfare applications (except maybe to study locations of mobs in relation to hills/paths/obstacles/etc.) And perhaps it's not actually a money sink since you would only buy one, but it is a cool stuff!
EDIT: either here or at gwonline, somebody mentioned that it would be nice to have a 24 hour in game /clock or /time command that would show you the time (grendich mean time ). This would be useful since most people would quickly learn the time conversion for their own time zone and people could say stuff like "meet me in 20 minutes" or "meet me in Ascalon at 13:30" with no problems... and it would be cool.

Silly hats. I definitely want to be able to buy and wear a silly hat, one that people can see me wearing, even in town.
Seriously, there should be clothing options beyond your battle armor. I'm hardly going to get suited up in my plate mail just to go down to the pub for a pint of Dwarven ale...

Oh! That's a great money sink actually - more clothing items that aren't actually armor, or look different than the armor already available. Even in FFXI, when I had great armor for my character, I was saving money, trying to get the lilac hair flower that served no purpose and didn't boost my stats in anyway, just because it looked pretty.
I'd like to see:
- other refreshments/beverages, similar to Dwarven Ale, with temporary effects - whether they be temporary stat boosts for PvE missions, or fun novelty items (make your character burp, different visual effects that can be seen by those near them - the way that divine aura can be seen by others)
- non-stat boost wearable items (flowers for hair, non-armor robes)
- fireworks/sparklers or other item that can be enjoyed by a group
Of course, these do not have to all be available from merchants, either.
As I stated before, there could be some sort of local pub in the main cities, a gathering place (this would satisfy the lack of "social aspect" mentioned in other threads), with an NPC specializing in those novelty food/drink items.
I think Gaile Gray or one of the other devs also mentioned once something about in-game events, and I think it'd be great if a fair or festival was around for a week or so, offering these items as prizes or for sale.

Do they have lite dwarven ale?
After a few tankards I'd still want to look good in my armor!

I want a Pirate's Eye patch, parrot sits on my shoulder during town visits and then flies around me but doesn't do anything during combat, and a /command that says some like "ya hoy matey's" or Arrrggghhh". Throw in a peg leg and I'll be all set
Eye patch = 100 Gp
Parrot or Macaw = 1 plat
The ability to swear and say, "AAAARRRRGGG me matey's" with a command, priceless.

Nope, no lite, yet.
I hope they introduce stuff like that - hard and light ale, and different types of ale, with different effects.

THE PILLOW!
This is a two handed weapon, 1 damage, 0.75 aspd (faster than sword/axe... 1.33 for them).
Has a 3% chance of knockdown.
-2 energy regen
Gold, purple, and blue versions do not exist (to keep people from fighting over who has the better pillow).
I just see this as a fun pvp item really.
Or can you see 8 people ganging up on a monster all with pillows? LOL

Could you imagine a sudden frenzy of 50 players beating on some poor schmuck in Ascalon with pillows??? That would rock!
Or just a 1 on 1 pillow fight within the town...

I still say some mild decorations and/or additions for the guild hall. Some novelty some not.
Like I want all kinds of merchants and crap.
Maybe some impaled corpses to make it feel more "homey".
Nothing says welcome like a head on a pole.

I agree. The head on a pole thing would be brilliant, perhaps it should be available as a "statue" type upgrade.
Maybe you could rent merchants... pay like 1 plat or 500 gold for a merchant to stay in your guild hall for a week or a month.

I want selectable undies. So if you decide to undress in town, at least you can look cute too (since female W undies are so bland). Mmmmmm... undies
DrSLUGFly
lol... yeah, buy default underwear. You could have the red farmer pajamas with the button up bum flap, flower print pajamas, or undies, boxers, briefs
dansamy
You think your warrior skivvies are bad? Have you seen what is under the female monk's clothes?
spiritofcat
Yes, buyable underwear would be great!
Also, that idea of an ingame clock is excelent, just run it on GMT, or ArenaNet's Timezone, and then any announcement about downtime could be simply in reference to that clock rather than giving it in PST, CST, EST and GMT.

Interesting...very interesting...
A few words to fuel thought:
Female Elementalist

I agree. We should learn a thing or two from savvy WoW perverts and charge people for our female elementalists to dance. It worked for the night elves.
DrSLUGFly
I've read a thread about this... someone was in Ascalon pimping ele lapdances... :/
Greentongue
How about musical instruments to go with the emotes?
A selection of items to juggle.
A selection of blankets to sit on.
Hireable NPC bands or entertainers (http://www.a-sharp.com/kodp/tour/tour19.html.)
Hats, underware, and "in town" clothes that were dyeable.
/burp /fart /sneeze

Buyable underwear, or at least a CHOICE to the underwear we have might be alright - but remember, there are also kiddies in the game, so the devs would have to make sure to design it in a way so that not everyone was running around in sexy lingerie lol.
If they ever expand storage, I'd like to see 'gift items'. Items that don't serve ANY purpose.. but can be given to others as gifts. Items like flowers, can be found out fightinng, or can be bought from a merchant. They won't be COMPLETELY useless, as some might be useful for mini side-quests too. (ie: Male NPC would like you to pick up a flower for him and present it to Devona). Perhaps there can also be items you can buy to donate to the Old Gods. Right now, you can donate gold, but why can't you leave them Red Iris Flowers, etc.. I'm sure they'd appreciate it.

Wont be long before prostitutes are introduced now ale has been introduced.
Oldest proffesion in the book lol
Imagine taking a class as a hooker and going round the outpost looking for work lol
All those rune farmers that are complaining they are out of buisness now would have another way of making thier millions.

Amnisac
Hair Dresser. An NPC, similar to a merchant but you can change your hair color, and your hair style. Probably would cost 500g+ since changing your hair is a pretty big thing. This would be great to have.
Massassi
Holiday specific armor and weapons and not just useless crap either. Stuff that is useable after the holiday but impractical. Santa hats for christmas that you buy at the crafter and candy cane staves and swords that drop only for that time. Scyths, Machetes, hockey masks and skeleton masks for holloween(maybe whole costumes even). Though seeing as how large the fan base is Anet would have to keep track of different Country specific holidays.
ManadartheHealer
I think there should be buyable food stuffs; not for any bonus, but so you can invite someone over to the guild hall for a feast...
BrandonIT
These are just wishes. I understand that many, such as the clothing accessories, would require extensive modeling and artwork and additions to the character database and and another 'wearable item' slot probably and ...blah, blah, blah. But it's worth a shot to mention them anyway. Who knows...
=========================
Novelty and Useful items for Guild Halls, like merchants, storage chests, etc.
Some small decorations for our characters. Obviously not too many but a flower in the hair, or something to that effect if your avatar does not wear a helmet (such as elementalists, mesmers, rangers, and necros).
I would LOVE to have equippable instruments. (of course, this brings up the topic of music, but 1 thing at a time.) If we didn't have instruments, what WAS the point of /flute, /guitar, etc? I understand air guitar, maybe air drums, but "air flute?" Still, I'm glad they're in, don't get me wrong!
I'd like to have a couple of more emotes. I understand not having "affectionate" ones that could be abused, but could we at least get a /kiss to blow a kiss to someone? Hard to be affectionate to my in-game (and IRL) wife with /cheer and /wave.
I like the spyglass idea. (like a 'zoom' feature)

Dagbiker
how about a class like "mechanist" that builds machines that fight. or builds weapons that fight for him/her, such as
gernade, stopwatch, pillbug,
gernade, stopwatch, pillbug,
Rhombus
being able to use dye on your hair? I know I know... blue hair... silver hair! (that would prolly just make it gray)
Tactical-Dillusions
How about animal bait? Drop a blob of charr chump on the ground and keep them intoxicated for a few seconds.
Footballs, leave this on a patrol and watch the fire imps toss it to each other while your warriors sneak up for the chop.
Animal costumes (with limited uses), just slap this over your armour when you have a pursuit and you get ignored by the mobs for 30 seconds.
Hats are a definite vote from me and so too are clothes.
I played an mmorpg which is advertised as free but in reality is supported by those who choose to pay. I was one of the payers and i bought whole sets of clothes. Kinda fun running around with a laser rifle and a cowboy hat, lol.
I even had a sexy female avatar and got myself some kinky stockings and high-heels..ooh yeah, work it girl.
You want sink holes Anet? Stick around baby, i'm sure we've got the answers.
