rangers sell pre-levelled pets
DrSLUGFly
Everyone wants a pet. Hell, I took ranger secondary for the exclusive reason of getting a pet.
I think it would be cool if a ranger could sell off their pet to another pc. Of course this would mean the "charm animal" skill would have to be for the actual charming only as opposed to holding the pet. (not fair that ranger needs a skill and pc doesn't). Likewise, the higher level the pet is when you sell it, or the more difficult to acquire, the higher gold you could get for it. And this way, players who aren't ranger could also have pets.
Perhaps they could even introduce a couple ranger skills for this, such as train animal: prepares an animal to be sold as a pet and/or eliminates the need to carry "charm animal"

1) Pets are meant to one of the ways to define the ranger class.
2) Can you say...pet farming?

The idea is that the ranger forms a bond with his pet. That's why the only way to get rid of your pet is to turn it over to an NPC animal trainer, who will take good care of it. Pets are not to be bought and sold like a slave market.

And it could be an industry for the more hard-hearted of us rangers
DrSLUGFly
That's what I was thinking... a ranger based industry. And a way to get a pet for those who want one.

It's an interesting idea, but I don't think it should be implemented (Unless the purchased pets provide absolutely no combat advantages.) One of the main uses of a ranger pet is to provide a tank for that ranger while he can snipe the monsters, to sneak up on opponents, etc. Giving pets to other professions would hurt rangers a lot more than the additional money would help them, as it would eliminate one of their main advantages.
I do play a ranger, and I do advocate making pets stronger (especially more HP at higher levels), but I honestly think that allowing other professions to get a pet (unless, as stated, they contribute absolutely nothing to combat) would harm rangers a lot more than it would help them.

I tried to farm pets once. I planted a whole bunch of cute little bunnies and kitties in the ground and I watered them everyday. They died.

But while we're talking about it, do people tame and train lynxes, wolves, pumas, and flamingos to kill in real life?
A ranger is bonded with his/her pet. They are not slaves to be bought and sold.
Also, anyone that thinks pets should be stronger isn't using theirs to its full potential.

Yeah! Didn't any of you read what the Ranger profession NPC said? Bond with nature, Melandru, blah blah blah. It is a sacred and spiritual relationship that must be upheld!

still when a player from a other player gets a pet lets say a Mo/Me for example they wont have beast mastery and therefore cant use the pet to its full potential or use any skills to make it do some damage (correct me if i'm wrong)

In terms of game mechanics, I like this idea. Say I want to switch to beast mastery and to use a pet for a change. Charming, and leveling my pet would be boring and time consuming. Conclusion, if I switch to secondary ranger, I won't bother using a pet. It wouldn't be much useful anyway, but that's another issue.
Buying a high level pet would be handy as long as basic restrictions are not forgotten. For instance, only rangers should be able to buy pets, and you shouldn't be allowed to buy a high level pet with a weakling (abusive twinking).
As for the lore issues (spiritual bonding and so on), I'm sure role players can entirely ignore this micro-industry.
