My first black dye drop

Just had my first black dye drop and I've been playing since the game was released and so far only witnessed one drop while teaming in the desert, but for another team member.
...and now, in pre searing Ascalon, my new level 3 Ranger found black dye.

Never expected to get that one in pre searing, not to mention expecting to get it at all

Can't wait to sell it, once I'm in post searing...

I've heard that a lot of dyes drop pre-searing. I've been in pre for little around 4 hours and I've already found a green, blue and yellow dye. My other Character played post for over 100 hours and found 1 silver, 2 greens, 2 purples and a blue. The math, if I ignore color values:

3/4 pre vs. 6/100 post...

clearly odds are better in pre-searing, but what's this I hear about a dye-trader? I won't be leaving pre-sear for a while, could someone enlighten me?

(congrats on the black btw )

I have had more dye drops in pre-searing than post-searing

Dye trader is in post-searing, and will buy dyes for a lot more than the 1 gold the merchant offers

Was that a serious question????

quite... the dye trader is part of the new update and it'll be probably another 10 or more game hours before I get post-searing. So I haven't seen him or the rune trader yet, and no nothing about them (except for bits I read here on the forums)

Dye trader wasn't part of the update, he's been around for quite some time.

Thanks

btw: this reminds me of the ongoing dye scam in post searing, where people make "unbelieveable" offers for any dye, whereas it turns out that it's about 1/10 if not 1/3000 of the price you would get in pre searing.
I usually send them tells that I have black dye and how much they are willing to pay, which results in a wild whisper-race to get me to sell that dye for a few gold... lol
It's just a pain to see players abusing new players like that.

Congrats! I had one black dye drop my second day ingame... in pre-sear. I used it not knowing what it was worth. My friend told me about ten minutes later.

I've gotten maybe 6 or 8 dye drops total since I started this game: no silver, the one black and a few of the others. I wish I knew where all the other dye goes. I rarely see any of it.

Got my first black dye just recently too. It dropped in Traveler's Vale. I've found a few Silver in pre-searing.

here's a good dye question:

I got a silver dye once (my first dye ever, how ya like them potatoes?). I used it on my pants, and in the inventory window my pants turned silver, but on my character, nothing... was this a bug? How is it supposed to work? I've been scared to use dyes since, for fear of wasting them... and it's fun to collect them

Many people have been reporting things like this. I persoanally hope they fix this. And, yes, I would consider this a bug... it's why I never use dye (except green; that seems to work fine )

Showing the armor in the inventory window is the bug, yes. Also, mixing dyes REALLY needs to be sorted out.

I am currently sporting a VIVID purplely pink colour on my armor, curtesy of... eh? Green and orange mixed!? Wtf?! It looked BROWN in the bottle!!!

Oh and despite what you learned at primary school, blue and yellow dunna make green. It makes... TADA!!! Electric blue. Be warned. Also, forget looking at pictures on the net of a monk wearing dyed clothes. Dye on different armor comes out LOOKING different..

.. ghey, ghey.. totally ghey...

I had a similar weird experience with dye remover on my necro armor.

It was green and I dyed it red, which looked more than ugly, so I used a dye remover and it turned purple-pink'ish. It turned out that the armor came green dyed and that this odd colour was the original one.

Another issue with dye: seeing how expensive it can be, it would be good to know which parts of the armor get dyed, because my monks armor only changes the outline of the clothes, which is only visible at a closer look.
Would be nice to be able to change the colour completely and be able to select the desired part of it, instead of having to use a cheap dye & a remover just to see how the dye will work on that one armor.
