At what point will I reach the fiery island area? I've been through Ascalon, N Shiverpeaks, Kryta, Maguuma, and am now working on the Crystal Desert. Are the islands next? Is there any faster way to get there?

After you finish Crystal desert (3 missions: Dunes of Despair, Thirsty River, and Elona Reach...+beat mirror) you will end up in Dragon's Lair...beat that, simple mission, then the Southern Shiverpeaks. Three more missions there...after Thunderhead Keep you will go to fire islands.
