War of the guilds, not true?
Chronos the Defiler
i still do not understand why the game is called Guild Wars yet it isn't directly revolved around the usage of guilds, they seem to be just a side item for people to try out...
I still say that there should be a hybrid PVP/PVE mix that provides for a more "guild vs. guild" type of game...
Basically when you start the game and create your character you are given the option to choose a team (there would be 2 teams i think) and one team starts at one side of the map and the other starts on the opposite sides of the map, the zones directly around the start point of the team contain easy lvl monsters and cannot be entered by the opposing team (you have pvp players unable to leave zones, so i tihnk it is possible to do)
One team would be the good guys (the ones from ascalon) and the other team would be the bad guys (trying to aid the undead or the mursaat)
The main towns across the map would be somewhat "checkpoints" where players can warp to if they want to start fighting near taht area (Lion's Arch, Henge of Denravi, Amnoon Oasis, and Droknar's Forge are the capturable towns)
So one team team starts on one sidfe and uses the zones near them to lvl up and learn the game better, then they can venture into the un-owned territory where they fighter harder monsters and possibly other players of the opposing team.
This might not be the greatest setup, but i mean to have something that even if you arent in a real guild, it still makes the game seem like it is somewhat related to actual "Guild Wars".

What are you talking about...there is Guild vs. Guild...
Chronos the Defiler
but it is extremely un-necessary, the game is called guild wars, but it is hardly a requirement at all to have guild wars.
The game could be called "A Hero's Journey: Rise and Fall of Ascalon" and it would give you a better idea of the game :/
i am saying that there should be something that destingushes "Guild Wars" as being a game with guild wars in it, as it is the title of the game...
my idea is just an example of how you can have a pvp and pve mix that pits a complete Guild vs. Guild feel to it, you simply create a character and you choose a MAIN guild that fights another MAIN guild, then the player made guilds are just for a smaller scale pure tactical team-play style.

Guild Wars is a reference to the wars before the Charr invasion that were called the Guild Wars.
The Guild Wars ended with the Charr invasion that we see the latest parts of the game, they Charr won the war with the searing.
And there are a lot of things that are guild related, there is a guild channel, there are GvG battles, there are guild halls (who end up being GvG maps), and guild capes.
The problem with your sugestion is that its just another form of PvP and there are enough options for PvP, not to say they would have to spend a great deal of effort on it and it would not make much sense considering the PvE is story based.
I would not play in that, I dont think many would because people that are into PvP will stick to it as people that are into PvE will also stick to it.

as posted in my other topic... see the game may have been about the guild wars before the charr invasion but he does have a point... the game is called guild wars for a reason and many players would love to see way way more guild stuff available (see my topic)... i agree chronos

you're also forgetting that this is chapter 1 in guild wars. if, in fact, the dev team plans on xpacs/new chapters, then the name might suggest there will be another period on the lore of the game where the Guilds across Tyrria are once again at war. Basically, chapter 1 is just the intro(and usually is, in the case of books) that sets the stage pretty much. It sets in the creatures of Tyrria, and keeps us asking questions at the ending mission about the you-know-whats and the you-know-whos(which, saying that I wouldn't even have to beat the game to be accurate :P Just trying not to ruin the plot for the newer folks).
Anyways, my point is this. Guild Wars as is, is only the first section of is what to come. If the name hints us to anything, it might be a new period of Guild Wars, or it couldn't, and might just be a reference to the Guild Wars that distracted the human nations enough so the Charr could eliminate them :P

Maybe you should read some of the Lore before you claim Anet has named they're game incorrectly.

Is it just me? or does this sound like a WoW fanboy?
EDIT-not trying to start flame war, just an observation.

Guild War is not just about Guild vs Guild, GW means having war with anyone outside your own guild. It's about war with bad guys (Undead Orrians, Vizier) and good guys (white mantles). It's about war with monsters and beasties in pve and fellow humans in pvp. It's about Americans vs Koreans vs Europeans. If you follow GW forum, you'd see people talk about in-fighting within pickup groups, pvers vs pvpers about skill capture, and players vs A-nets over farming. Just about the only people you won't go to war with are your guildies, but that too can change in the random 4 vs 4 arena.

You know, I saw Star Wars, and the stars didn't fight at all. They should have had the stars themselves going at it, rather than just a bunch of people who happened to fly around between stars doing the fighting. How was it "Star Wars" when the stars didn't play any part in the war at all?
