I remember the old days

I am not one of the oldest members in here, nor am I the youngest. ( in age been here) I was here in Beta, and through the release. Why are things so bad now? I can't remember ever seeing a 'banned' name during the pre-beta, but now I see it everywhere.

People blackmailing each other, people charing people about e-baying, and the like. What has happened to these forums?

I remember when there was only a few new posts a day, maybe 13, throughout the whole board. We talked about what would happen when the game came out, and I was stuned, and glad by the fact that new people came.

But is more people better? Not in my experiance here. Now people yell at each other, blackmail, and try to ruin people's fun. They argue about the grind, and complain about things being nerfed.

Why can't things go back to the old times? When people were courtious, and kind. What can we do differently to make this better?

I'm open to suggestions.

Just an older members opinion. ( PS how have I been here longer then some moderators? haha )

The more people you have the more bad apples you have.

Actually, we never had under 50 posts a day from start. On the last BWE we spiked up madly. Right now we do over 3k posts a day - hard to moderate all that!

Well, I mean during the non-Beta weekend days.
There as around 70-100 posts a day during the BWE, spread throughout though.
The last BWE was crazy, yes. And the night the game came out, was nice.

I guess you need more mods

Every adjustment to a game ends up with a flurry of bad posts. It's expect of any game.

Try being an admin of a forum for a major Halflife modification and deal with hundreds of threads a day after the switch to steam. Permanent Vacation becomes a quick option.

Forums attract the opposite ends of the player spectrum.

I hoped it would remain as mature as it did in Beta though. I liked the beta, except for the fact that it was only once a month that I could play with most my friends.

They won't add mods I don't think, that would mean less centralized control. Not a complaint, just an observation.

I am an infant compared to 99% of you, but since my arrival I have seen both sides grow in absurdity.

As some may recall, I had anticipated this very sort of thing happening any number of months ago. Now, what people didn't know was that I was also setting into motion a series of events that would contain the problem.

It all started with a special Orchid - long since believed to be extinct - which was in the care of a seperatist religious sect. They were not willing to cooperate with my demands, and in the end, I 'liberated' it from them. What makes this Orchid so special, you may be asking, and what does it have to do with us? Well, therein lies the rub, does it not?

The fact was that this Orchid produced a unique type of nectar; which I have long since distributed to anyone that reads these forums by way of contaminating the supply of drinking water. This nectar renders people vulnerable to the effects of the Meuller Device - a sort of enormous, floating red ball of doom. Using the Device, I can pacify the minds of people; creating the perfect Utopian forums. No conflict, no betrayal, and no people that do not worship me as the single most awesome thing in the history of all awesomely awesome things.

Or, the Device might turn everyone into murderous, bloodthirsty psuedo-zombies. I'm not sure yet, I didn't really read the instruction manual, but I am looking forward to trying it out to see what happens.

When I was added as a moderator over a month ago, seemed like we were getting three new mods per week. We've slowed down quite a bit in the last week or so. Still, the posts in the staff area dicussing who to recruit come about weekly, with the starting line, "It's that time of the week again..."
