What does the tick mean?

I know the little fire icon means that a topic is hot, it has a lot of posts, or is vary active, but I've noticed recently sometimes that icon appears with a black tick in the middle of it. It isn't explained in the topic icon legend at the bottom of the page, I'm just wondering what it means.

If you've replied to a thread, the icon may have a tick and/or the small document icon will have text-lines instead of a blank 'page'.
