Hi everyone, first time poster. I already have a Necromancer/Mesmer that I enjoy as well as an Elementalist/Ranger that I enjoy, but I want a third character to play with a school friend. I was considering either Mesmer/Warrior, Mesmer/Monk, Monk/Necromancer or something else. Does it matter which class is my primary? Let me have some suggestions from the experts. Thanks very much.

There really isn't a class that won't work in PvE, but keep in mind that you're limited to only 4 character slots. If you eventually want to unlock all the skills, and still have room to roll a PvP character, I would suggest making either a warrior/monk or a monk/warrior. Both can get parties, and both can be fun (I prefer monk primary).

What makes you say Monk/Warrior? Is there anything worthwhile to make that involves Mesmer?

If you are new at GW I found mesmer just a bit more complicated to play with over any other primary class. I think healing monks are boring, but I like smiting

I'm playing around with a few builds right now but I have some more questions. With my 3rd character slot I am wondering, is it worth trying a Monk/Mesmer (pure support), a mesmer/warrior (caster killer), or a mesmer/elementalist? The elementalist part seems like it would really help with energy storage and the added ability to fast cast seems like a sure winner. Thanks.

I play Me/W and it is fun. You can play the role of disruption and weakening or tank.

How are rangers? What do they go well with? And any comments on the other build ideas are most welcome.

It's not like anyone can tell you which class is more fun. It's entirely opinion.

In addition to differences in armor, characters can only get runes of their primary class. No classes can heal with the energy efficiency or raw healing power of a Monk (although an E/Mo is arguably as good, because of a huge energy pool), since Divine Favor is excellent. Minion users will be mana short without Soul Reaping. Energy Storage is helpful to any class combination that uses lots of mana. If you can't decide between Class A/Class B and Class B/Class A, first look at which primary attribute would be better for your playstyle.

Cool. I have narrowed it down. First one is Mesmer/Warrior and the last choice is Monk/Warrior. I tried to come up with something cool having to do with rangers but got nothing. My elementalist already has ranger as a second profession. Hope that was a wise choice.

What I meant was that since you already have a necromancer/mesmer, and an elementalist/ranger, if you want to unlock all the skills in the game, you need all 6 professions represented in 3 RP character slots, which leaves you either a war/mo, or a mo/war. If you don't care about leaving one spot open for PvP, than do whatever you would like, there aren't any combos that won't work in PvE.
