Based upon the article I say no (not counting the obvious does someone meet the req). This discussion comes up in the selling forums some. I am asking knowledgeable people to please help me dispel the myth. If you disagree with me then please quote where you are getting the information. If I am wrong, as a warrior, I need to know.

Does a weapon requirement affect weapon damage

This is questions and answers, I see no questions?
Weapon requirement does NOT affect weapon damage, unless of course you are under it.
Why was this thread made again? It's not debated here, it's 1 person saying it followed me 10 people laughing at him for not understanding the post.

A weapon requirement is merely the requirement for you to deal full damage with that weapon. If you meet the requirement, good. You're at max damage. If you don't, damage is less.
How high the requirement is simply a gauge on how good the weapon is. Let's say I have a hammer with 19-35 damage req. 7 hammer mastery. I have another hammer that says 19-35 damage req. 10 hammer mastery. Obviously there's no difference for a player who has lvl 10 hammer mastery, but many people would rather have the lvl 7 hammer since they don't need as much mastery to use it.

I heard from someone that if I had level 10 sword mastery, I would do more damage with a requirement 9 sword than with a requirement 10 sword...is this true?

it is a minimum requirement to get the full stated damage otherwise it would say extra damage for each level exceeding minimum
in that case everybody would be using level 1 weapons for the bonus

See this is what people are hearing and that is why I wanted a post to clear this up one way or the other based upon the article.
People who hold this theory believe that the tests were using a 12 req. sword. Hence if you had an 11 req. sword with a 12 attribute you would do 104% of dmg just like if you had a 12 req. sword with a 13 attribute. BUT this is a misreading of the article. These people cannot read their theory backwards on that table. Let's assume their theory is correct for the moment. Does a 12 req. sword and an 11 attribute level do 91.7% of the dmg? No. Does a 11 req. sword with a 10 attribute level do 91.7% of the dmg? No. Their theory is a misreading of the article.

Do I really have to state the problem in the form of a question so it is applicable to this area?
Does a weapon's requirement level affect weapon damage so long as someone meets that requirement?

I went to the temple and tested a Totem Axe ( 20/20) and a Razorstone (15>50, the +1 axe w/ using a skill didn't kick in with Wild Blow)
Both of them are req 9. I had strength at 0. I used Wild Blow.
With Axe at 9
Totem ALWAYS did 31 dmg and when the 20/20 kicked in, ALWAYS 38
Razorstone ALWAYS did 35 dmg.
With Axe at 10 +1 more attribute than the req
Totem ALWAYS did 33 dmg and when the 20/20 kicked in, ALWAYS 41
Razorstone ALWAYS did 38 dmg.
With Axe at 11 +2 more attributes than the req
Totem ALWAYS did 36 dmg and when the 20/20 kicked in, ALWAYS 45
Razorstone ALWAYS did 42 dmg.
With Axe at 12 +3 more attributes than the req
Totem ALWAYS did 40 dmg and when the 20/20 kicked in, ALWAYS 49
Razorstone ALWAYS did 45 dmg.
After 12 attribute points, the dmg barely increases
With Axe at 13 +4 more attributes than the req
Totem ALWAYS did 41 dmg and when the 20/20 kicked in, ALWAYS 50
Razorstone ALWAYS did 47 dmg.
So if you exceed your weapon requirement up to 12 attribute points, you WILL do more damage.

That could be down to purely being better with an axe....a better test for this case would be to have 2 axes identical in every aspect BUT one with req 9 and the other req 12....if there was a difference in performance then your case would be proved....i am unconvinced

You did more damage as your attribute went up because the damage you do increased with your ranks in weapon mastery. It has nothing to do with how far above the req you are. Requirement is a binary thing--either you meet it or you don't, and that's all that matters.
