I have no other forums to use a sig at, so I've never found a use for one.
Those are all really nice, though.

This is my smiter which I took the background away from using GIMP (it's like free photoshop... well... I guess it's not like free photoshop. free photoshop is pirated photoshop... ahem*)
anyway. thats my second attempt (you don't want to see the first one) at erasing backgrounds, so it looks rough around the edges.
edit:
here it is made into a sig. unfortunatly, It wouldn't let me save it as a png with multiple layers, so I "flattened it" which made the transparent part turn white. so then I saved it as a gif, which is the only other format I know that supports transparency and can be uploaded to imageshack, but then it made me turn it into an animation. so its a bigger file, and it also goes through a single frame (the second layer appearing over the background) if you watch closely.
edit: hmm... maybe guild-hall.net is just really slow. it doesn't take time to load here, and it doesn't do that weird animation thing.

herei got bored and made a better sig for you

the reason the Sigs don't work at the moment is that they're waiting for a server upgrade, and wants to make sure that signatures are the right size.
In my Clan/Guild, signatures can be 4 lines long (max) or a image (400wX75h) and 2 lines of text. This removes the clutter, and I er... got warned about my sig on the site, which I edited and got approval.
If this gets implemented, it'll be interesting to say the least

I am currently trying *crossing fingers* to make a sig, or avatar, but first i need paintshop how much does it cost?
Frost_
:O 400x75! all mine are 400x100
Gerbill
I don't see the whole deal though.
if you don't want to see signatures simply select that in your control panel.
that the server can't handle it is understandable but after that shudn't be a problem no matter what u have in it.
Although if you can't upload your signature, it won't be uploaded from this very server thus there's no problem at all.
noobs will put in 800x600 pics though so as for the restrictions
max width = 500
max height = 150
that's more than enough space to work with.

Thanks for the idea, I will add my when I have time to make one. I'm also not the best of making them. But everyone always has their own things they do best.

Is anyone here making Signatures and/or Avatars for people? I would be interested because I tried, but I just can't make them....
Omega_2005
hmm, all ideas are welcome but I think it'll be another one of those "Polls" that we may have to do sooner or later

I have always been interested in making sigs, but I'm not sure exactly where to start. Could any of you expert "siggers" lead me in the right direction?
~Thanks in Advance~

Holy Geebus Gerbil, where did you learn to do stuff like that, and if you guys wouldnt mind, tell what program you use to do sig work. I'd love to try my hand and get better!
**Edit** And I'm with Rhino, I've done some but they are very noobish >.<, anyone know a good place to start?

I just need to know stuff like, how do you cut images so perfectly to go on backgrounds... and how the heck do you get different image files to become layered with each other? I sound dumb, but I would really like to know!
Gerbill
I use photoshop.. I suggest just using photoshop, you can download a trial version on
www.adobe.com.
There are loads of tutorials to find aswel, just search on google.
To cut out images.. there are lots of different ways, the pen tool is the best way but that's quite difficult to start off with.
how about put an image on a layer, use the lasso tool to select a part, simply press delete to cut that part from the picture, do that till it's cut out.
as for selecting, if you hold shift and then select a part, it's added onto your current selection, if you hold alt and then select a part it will be removed from your current selection.
as for layers, put an image on a layer, cut it out, then if you make a new layer and drag it underneat the layer with the image on it (all done in the layer window) it will be beneath the image, if you just make it black for example all the parts underneath and around the image will be black.
each layer has it's own blending options, play a bit around with those.
a standard something for fonts could be "Bevel and emboss" and a 1 pixel black "stroke", works nicely is used A LOT though.

Just a couple suggestions. Play with the opacity on the border, when it's a little more transparent it seems "flashier". for the image you might wanna play around with feathering a bit. First click on your lassoo (either one is good magnetic, etc), then at the top it will say "feather" with a "0px" beside it. Change that number to about 15 (or more or less your choice). Then trace around your image (like of the mesmer), you can go right on the edge of the image, a few pixels outside the image, or even inside the image. Once you have done this hit Ctrl+Shift+I to invert the image. Then tap the delete key and the edges of your image should begin to "disappear". Tap it as many times as you want to get the desired blending effect. I apologize for my lack of technical terms here. I know how to do it but it's harder to tell someone else to do it. (at least for me )
P.S. I love that background!

i understand how everyone is getting pictures of their characters on the signatures but, where are you guys getting the backgrounds?
DaRhino
Thanks guys, that actually helped a lot. I already have Photoshop™. (lol, TM)
I got it from a friend, but I don't care if it's dodgy...
I already have my background for my sig, I just need to crop/cut/whatever my character and incorporate it into the background. Thanks again guys.
P.S. Any other sites for tutorials?

What do you think?
DaRhino
Those are pimp. I especially like the second one.

Sorry to doublepost, but I felt it should be said. The link posted by Gerbill, www.pslover.com is very good. They've taught me a lot, and I just started today.
By the way, here's a sig that I made. No foreground picture, but I think the background is good for my first day of Photoshopping.^^
MY FIRST SIG!!
EDIT: How much longer until we can have sigs again on these forums? Or have they been discontinued completely?

I agree, www.pslover.com is a fantastic site. I've learned so much in so short a time and its very easy to understand and duplicate. I've created a few sigs since I started doodling in PS a few days ago. You can find them on a web page I threw together here. Let me know what you guys think! (The bottom one is the most recent and took me about 2 hours before I finally figured out the effect that I wanted, lol)

Things to take in count while making a signature
Color scheme, make sure colors are visible on top of eachother that's really important sometimes you just want things to stand out and others not to stand out.
Try and get the hang of using Mask Layers.. they own all, with blending multiple images into eachother.
use blending modes, especially on text this can easily give a nice effect.
for example enter the blending mode screen for your text layer
simply click the boxes "Bevel and Emboss" and "Stroke" then go to the "Stroke" tab and select a different color and make the stroke 1 pixel thick.
that's the easiest and also most generic way to make your text stand out more.
