Now I am back at home after a hard year at Uni I am unable to get the client to startup but will stop on the updater, it will not connect to arenanet and on running netstat I get the status: time_wait for nearly everything going to ncsoft. The updater does not crash or anything as I am able to close it properly and move it about the screen.
I do realise this is something to do with my router (an obscure company called origio and a wireless model they no longer make) but I am going spare.
Even enabling DMZ does not let the updater run properly
Everything else works fine and it is JUST Guild Wars that will not run,
Connecting to Arenanet

If we don't have any of these, we can't give advice.

Ok, fair enough . the router is this http://www.eaonline.com.my/product/wireless/w30001.htm and has worked fine for 2 years on everything.
I'm connecting through a belkin 802.11g pci card. It is the same computer that i was using at uni and the only difference is it is connecting through the wireless rather than the ethernet (and obviously the internet connection is different). The ISP is NTL and its a 1Mb connection.

Can you connect directly into it with Cable rather than using the wireless option? If you can, give that a go first and see how it works then. If it still doesn't work connected through cable, then I would suggest you check all the Firewall settings on the ROuter, if it has any, and all the security settings for the wireless function and make sure both are communicating properly together.
Also, using wireless, you do get connection drops etc which aren't noticed so much while browsing, but with gaming, you need a constant connection, otherwise you won't get very far. Same with downloading, if connection drops, you will lose the download feed.
Also, do you run any firewall software on your PC. If so, remove all settings for GW and let the firewall software reset these connections with your new Wireless Connection.

I was connecting through a hole in the wall network at uni (an industrial scale 5000 people connecting kinda job). It is alot of trouble to connect with the cable in that i live on a 4 floored house (victorian terrace) and my room is on the top the router on the bottom.

That could be part of your problem right there.
Depending on how good the Wireless connection is, trying to go through several floors and trying to wing it's way through concrete and floorboards to reach your PC may be a lot of effort to keep a constant signal.
Keep an eye on the signal levels as you use your PC normally without playing GW and see if you get a really low connection or if the signal drops altogether.
If the signal is very poor or keeps dropping, then you will have to test your PC on the ground floor and see what happens then. Sorry, but that is the only way of testing if the ROuter is working fine, and may just be a Wireless communication issue.
If the signal is good all the time, and never drops a beat, then it may well be working ok and you just need to sort out firewall issues that may be present on the ROuter and affecting your connection through the Router.
