Guild Wars Past History?

Hi, I am very interested in past history of Ascalon, Kryta, Orr, or Tyria in general. I recieved the online version of the game, so no manual came with it and I heard the manual had some sort of background. It is hard for me to appreciate the game to its full potential because it just seems kind of random to me right now without a backstory. (like who the heck are the charr, and why are they attacking?)

Also, I am trying to write my characters' bios and I need to know the history of ascalon to make it accurate, as well as info such as what exactly was surmia? Did charr invade the north at some time or did they always live there? What was nolani academy really for?

If someone could either write up something for me, or point me to somewhere that could answer my questons, I would be most grateful. The lore on the GW website really doesnt help because it is all stories from the actual games "present day". Also, I am looking for as much detail as possible... makes things more interesting!

Thanks a lot for your help.

Sorry to disappoint you, but the manual doesn't really help much either :/. I too am interested in writing some background info on my guild and characters in the world of Tyria, although have decided that I'd have to take some liberties with the content since there is little described in the manual.

I'm assuming the Charr always lived in the far north of Ascalon, but then built up their forces and probably made a blitzkrieg over a few months that ended up destroying all of Ascalon north of the Wall. The game starts when the Charr actually reach the Wall.

The Nolani Academy as far as I know was a training ground for heroes apparently and was subject to frequent attacks by the guilds.

well that sucks... but i still think its bad planning on their part not to give those of us who ordered gw electronically the ****ing manual.... what the hell is up with that?

is there any way to get it without having to pay some bullshit fee? IE: pdf version?

There's a bit more information about the Nolani Academy of the Arcane Arts here.

Quote:
None of Ascalon's academies of magic remain intact after the Searing. In its prime, the Academy in Nolani was known all across Tyria as one of the most prestigious schools of magic on the entire continent. Ambassadors from Orr and Kryta often made special arrangements to have their children study here, even though they were not of Ascalon decent. I believe that's actually straight out of the game. It's the text that appears in the dialog if you select Nolani Academy on the world map (typo and all, that should be "descent" at the end).

The game manual does contain a timeline of events in Tyria's past and some other details you might be interested in. It's not a lot, but enough to spice things up with a few details if you were writing something set in Tyria.

Well the manuel I got didnt tell much of the backstory as much as the adventures of Devona,AIden,Mhleno, and Cynn doing the missions in the game. There are pages of how it got created, the gods, and an overview of the Kingdoms and Guild Wars. I personally like the timeline though 8^)

Look, I don't have the manual, that's my point. So what I need is either an electronic scan copy of the manual or something... or some place I can read about the same information as in the manual. It isn't fair that I paid the same amount of money as other people... and yet didn't even get a frikken manual. So instead of telling me about the timeline, either please type up what the manual says or show me where I can get that information for free. Thanks.

I think the official Guild Wars website has some lore on it, I'm not sure if they've transfered the entire contents of the manual over though. Still you could check there. Other than that I don't know, sorry. I've been looking for something like that too, but haven't had any luck thus far.

Not to be rude, but do you guys even read my post? I already said I checked the gw site and it had nothing I wanted. Can someone just scan the timeline page and some of the more important history from the manual please?

Did someone end up giving you the information? I noticed you weren't getting very far in your post, and I know how frustrating it can be when there's a lack of info. I know that was a while ago now but I stumbled across your post when looking for information myself. If you still need it, I can scan the necessary pages from the manual and send them to you. Just reply and let me know.

Yeah, there should be more info and you should be able to play through the REAL guild wars.
