Next expansion?

does anyone have any idea of when the next expansion pack is coming out

July 4th. Complimentary fireworks for all Americans who pre-order. Uk pre-orders get a cup of tea in a crate labelled Boston.

Nothing concrete has been stated as far as I am aware. Only a general ambition to publish a new chapter every 6-9 months.

I played City of Heroes for over 3 months and I got so completly bored stiff with waiting for an expansion that I lost all interest in the game completly!

damn, I'd better start looking for another game to play now..

dont get me wrong I love guildwars.. but I cant play the same game for over 6 months

there is only so long we can be drip fed new content like this... I mean, one or two new areas, how long exactly will it take to explore every inch of those?

As I've posted on 'The state of Guildwars' thread.. its not the content or the amount of things to do which is making people bored or the general losing of interest.. its the addictive elements of showing off, prowess, individuality and uniqness.. there just isnt anything to fight for not even the glory of your own guild..

If they released new playable content every month.. this would be enough to keep me going, but..SIXTH WHOLE MONTHS?... lol.. just think about it.. summer will have come and gone, August bank holiday..Autum will arrive,... then winter..christmas.. new year.. january sales..... can anyone seriously beleive they will still be playing then???

Im just going on titbits ive been fed by admins and putting two and two together to make five. The free content should be tonight. The purchase upgrade will be later in the year. It is suppose to be more difficult and will take longer to complete. A bit like Fissure and Underworld. Ive set my self up by saying its tonight and will be gutted if not because im getting bored as well. Im a PVE player and need new areas to explore.

I have nto yet completed the game but I know if they say around 06 ish then I will have completed it by then with all of my characters...I hope that it comes out later this year...



If not..I will be sad...

I don't play 23 hours and 55 minutes a day.....so I can wait the six months for the update.

I couldn't disagree with you more snowman.

I want more content, more dungeons especially. This download isn't all that much that's true but heck, the games brand new and they jumped all over the problems. Some will say too much but it's nice to see Dev's working.

If they keep feeding me content every other month I'll easily make it to next year for the full up expansion. I don't think any where near the majority of people have finished the game even though it doesn't take long.

Giving us shiny blades or titles don't mean a thing to me. I want challenging content. Content so hard that most players whine and complain that it's impossible. New zones are great if they're hard enough, progressive dungeons would be my preference but I can see the problems there for developers.

I'm not so much for amazingly hard content - sure put some in - but rather fun and interesting gameplay. Diverse quests. fantastical monsters. Amazing locales.

I loved making the root bridges in the jungle.
I like using the siege engines on the Chavs - take that for gwen and althea you @!#$s!
The first time i saw a drake, griffon of dwarf on . on.. whatever it is they ride!

keep playing HL 2 until you figure out what happened with the plot!

according to Anet it will be first half 06 and closer to 2nd quarter 06 rather than early 06

as for content that is exactly what the next chapter will give

maybe some people are just leveling too quickly for the sole purpose of saying they are done....i've had hours and hours of endless fun soloing Hydras for the last couple of days. and simply seeing how far north or south or east or west the game will let me go. Stop worrying about what happens next and just play the game

Cant play for 6 months ? lol i played Diablo II sinse the stress Test thats about 5-6 years hahah and i never stopped but now cuz of guild wars

If they give us say.. a new area every month, that would be good! and would keep me going, and people would soon come back just to try the new content.. this would be great

But as I understood it... most new areas and new content would come in the retail expansions... so apart from this 'tit-bit' we're getting (sorry that sounds awful I know lol) we are NOT due to have much more for at least another six months.

and this is bad news especially for the likes of you and me who DO like to PVE alot

I Admire those who enjoy putting all their blood sweat and tears into somthing as un-rewarding as Diablo.. But being in the industry for over 10 years I know these people are definatly in the minority.

I WAS going to start kicking out inactive members once the next retail expansion was released, this would give me an idea as to their loyalties, but I aint waiting 6 months

I probably wont play the game ALL the way down to the expansion. Give me about three to four months I'll probably put it on the shelf for a bit. I'll keep updated though and check out what the expansion will have to offer, probably get that and take it off the shelf again to have fun with a few months + expansion worth of content.

I have to agree with that. Civilization is a great game; I only wish there were more people playing it online

I will probably finish the current content at least once before the expansion. Maybe multiple times with different characters. I've only just gotten to Beacon's Perch...by the time the new free content is released, I'll never know it wasn't ever there to begin with. I'd never be able to keep up if they released new content every month, but that's just me.

Everyone has different play styles. It's hard to make everyone happy, but I think ANet is doing a great job.

The thing is, in this game your toons can really only do two things. Walk and Kill. (well okay, and open chests/pick up loot)
So any quest made in the game is going to be tied into either walking or killing.

Take a look at the missions and some of the supposedly diverse things you're doing. Repairing the catapult? Involves walking somewhere, grabbing the item, walking back. Firing it? Click on the lever.

Most quests are fedex quests because there is no other way for your character to interact with the world.

So if you want to see diverse quests, they'd first have to alter the way in which your toon interacts with that world.

Also, I think that this one free content update is going to be just that, ONE free update.

Personally, I doubt I'll still be playing GW next year, and when the expansion comes out then, well...

I must state, for the record, that I've been a non-hardcore RPG gamer for years. I love the genre - my favorite, but I refuse to 'fly' through a game as good as GW.

I have played GW, along with my 12 year-old son, since day 1 of retail. I just 'taxi-ed' him to Yak's Bend - and only because we started from Nolani and had a blast knocking off monsters along the way. I enjoyed his excitement as he got to see monsters I had already seen and fought. I'm getting 3-8exp as he gets 15-30exp.

He still has 12 pre-yak's bend quests to do (Frontier's Gate, Fort Ranik, Historical Markers, etc...) and I am ready to move on (start Borlis Pass Mission).

I have been averaging 1-2 hours per day and him maybe .5-1 hours, and yet we have not crossed the Shiverpeaks. Why you ask? Not because of multiple attempts at a mission, or farming, or money grubbing - I/we explore every inch of an area and fight every monster. I will spend time just admiring the awesome graphics included in the game - WHAT A WORLD CREATED HERE.

"Wow - all that time and you must have ton's of gold". No, I think we both have a little less than 2k each (and we are in a guild together, willing to take real players, if you like good play and waiting until Energy builds back up before running off). We pick up everything, but are hoarding wood, cloth, leather, etc... for future armour and sales in other areas. If no one wants to buy, it's off to the merchant. We also have very few Purple or Blue items, upgrades, of runes (we now can buy some runes). We have zero Gold items - I never saw one.

The point of this winded post: at about 2, even 3 hours per day - I will just be finishing when they have the next upgrade of content and will be happy to keep on adventuring. By that time, I should have the family 50" plasma and be playing on that w/ surround - wouldn't that just kicka$$!

Those who have completed the game, even twice have had to either: run through it all, spent 10-12 hours per day, have no job, or have no life, AND they could not have gotten true enjoyment from the game.

well...since i have been banned playing games since like april. I can see guild wars lasting a long while. I can finnally play again without the possiblity of getting banned longer the friday after this friday. WOOT!
Especially since i'm only lvl 9 and have not even got to mountians yet. What's worse is my little bro is lvl 15 and already to lions arch..dang it.....must...catch...up.

What are all these complaints about there not being an expansion until '06? Just because the first pay expansion won't be out until the first half of '06 doesn't mean A.Net is just sitting back waiting to release it. They are going to be adding new content via streaming updates.

almost every wednesday or friday i have been seeing streaming updates around 2-4 pm eastern or in the very early morning.
For an example, The Rune Trader wow~
im sure Anet will constantly be updating bugs/minor updates yet could be very essential to our gameplay experience.
If the upcoming update really is as Big as they say, I shall wait since in proportion the update will have major changes.

I'm not going anywhere.

Ascended two characters and i plan on working my way through with two more.
I just hope we get to see new gametypes like seeing how long you can survive "non-stop, everlasting and progressively harder" waves of mobs.
Play solo or in a team...would be fun indeed.

Massive shopping lists to get for collectors that reward you with a fully customised, chosen spec weapon with all the trimmings. Sweet indeed.

I feel GW has a long, happy and bright future. How can a company with such understanding and appreciation for it's customers feedback fail to lose?

Well, don't see why you have to "quit"... No monthly fee, so stop playing for a while and come back when we get expansion =P

I'm one of those power-freaks. It was a blast (but didn't last too long )

I enjoyed the Civ series, until it was ruined by a succession of history and anthro classes. Now I can hardly stand the game.

I believe gamespy mentioned a free GW expansion over the summer.. Check their E3 coverage or search for Guild Wars.

So why was it you were so "posertive" again?

Of course you can pick any game down to it's bare bones mechanics like that. That wasn't the point. The point was the result. With the catpults the result was splatted char that's what stood out, NOT fetching the broken parts. Same with the root bridges. The result not method was what I was hinting at.

To me blowing up gates, using minions to trigger traps, using a trebuchet to blow up Char, chasing people through jungles by creating bridges from seeds while mechanically similar didn't feel that way in game and when spread out with more typical kill, escort, protect or find missions aren't as boring as you seem to want to make out.

I always say that if you are going to criticise something you should provide some alternatives or things that you think would improve that.

PS. Personal pet peeve is the term toons, where did it come from? - drives me potty, avatar, character I much prefer

toon is short for "cartoon character"

Sorry for not reading all of the second page posts ... but I wanted to post that I saw gayle already post that the expansions (this live update thats approaching) is due for mid summer. As for the boxed expansions I have heard no other word than what loviatar has written.

EDIT ----- And yes I will be playing, as stated above, summer is my time for camping, fishing, and I will still be playing as Sorrows Furnace and Grenths Footprints will be available sometime in the summer. Have you already unlocked all elites and non elites skills? I haven't and I play nightly I have all for the ranger, most for monk and mesmer (bout 80-85%), about 40% for warrior and necro and elementalist though no elites.

Certainly new content I would appreciate to see, but the game is so much more than just a hack a slash game that it will take time for the developers to add content, as its such a diverse game ... its not easy to just throw in a observer mode, new content, and other functionality while maintaining the security and defending against constant attacks and bots. Anets timing is great and has not disappointed me so far ... (and yes I have 4 characters 3 ascended and have killed 4 other builds off by lions arch)
