Troubles with my 6600 GT
Armaio
I just received my card, and everytime I restart or turn on my computer I get a message reading "Nvidia Sentinel has detected that your video card is not getting enough power, and has lowered the settings automatically." I would like to have the highest settings possible, does this mean I need a new Power Supply? My Power Supply right now is only 230 watts max... let me know please

Simple answer, yes. You plugged in the molex connector right (it does have one?) If not then try that first, if there isn't one, then most definitely a bigger power supply is needed.

P.S. It also matters what your system is, but your video card is probably upper 60's in wattage range. Is the rest of your specs like reallylow i.e. 450 Mhz computer, with 256MB SDRAM? If it's decently new then you should have a new PSU right away... it would be a concern to be running new systems on 230W when they recommend the minimum be 300W.

i think you should replace it
the manufacturer put a power supply into your pc assuming that it would remain undisturbed
they determined that your wattage would be covered by the supplied unit with a small margin for safety
even if you get it working with the unit provided you will be working with it at maximum+ all the time
if it goes poof it could take everything with it (or just itself)
EDIT
i have a 6600GT and it does indeed have a edge connector for the extra power needed

Replace the card? or the PC? I built the PC myself, the tower I bought came with the crappy power supply. There is a cord with red/black wires and a white connector piece on it, but on the manual it says this piece is optional. And it really doesnt have any instruction on how to install it...any help would be appreciated.

i use ANTEC but any good name brand will do
get at least 350 watts minimum
i am using for 1 pc a Antec true power 380 and the other has a Antec tue power 430
EDIT
replace the power supply by removing cables from motherboard and then removing the 4 screws holding it in
reverse to install

Loviatar means to replace the PSU, and I agree. But it's up to you. And since Loviatar has a 6600GT he should be able to tell you what the red/black wires is for? A molex connector is where you connect your standard power into (it's the same for your hard drives/optical drives if your not using SATA)

PULL OUT THE POWER CORD FIRST
than gently set the power supply next to the pc with cables attached
remove them one at a time and replac with the corrosponding cable from the new supply after the one or two cables to the motherboard swap the power cords to the hard drive and the floppy drive and the cd/dvd/whatever
move new supply into space where old was and double check each cable for tightness plug it in and go
EDIT
WHAT BRAND 6600GT IS IT?
i checked several different ones and some have the connector and some cont

When they say bottom they mean bottom of the photograph. It's black, and semi-rectangular. If you looked in it, you should see 4 fairly large cylindrical pins. Basically you need to plug one of your standard power cables into that connector.

Ok well it doesnt look like a 4 pin connector...I will take the card right out and try to plug it in I guess, thanks. Be right back with info.

Problem solved, I'am so sorry...big time rookie mistake. Always look carefully at the video card before installing it. One thing that gives me an excuse is there is nothing about it in the manual. Weird, but thanks for all your help guys I greatly appreciate it. Now I'am going to do a 3dmark comparison
Loviatar
my manual has 2 pages of warnings and drawings on that
they also included a splitter if i needed it which your kit did not include either
glad all of us could help
