Mount Ideas (hope devs read this :))
Raduwalker
I had an idea to make balanced ridable creatures, that I thought I'd share. Firstly, make them ranger only, needing charm animal to tame them. Secondly, they would need to be balanced, so , their benefits would be a speed increase, as well as having a certain rank in beast mastery to be able to ride them.
For example, at say, 5 in beast mastery you can tame a mount that gives +5% speed increase when you ride it.
at 9 or so, you can tame and ride a mount that gives +10% speed increase
and at 12, you can ride one that gives 15-20% speed increase.
The key is that in order to ride it, you need high beast mastery, this would prevent people from pumping BM to tame, and then dumping it all out after. A constant speed increase is very useful, however, the downside is that you need to devote many attribute points to BM as well as, the pet wont be attacking while you ride it. I dont think this would be unbalanced for pvp or pve, since you have to devote so many points to BM
Any thoughts on this ?

This is one of the only workable mount ideas. It's a nice idea, but I still think that (if at all) mounts should be implemented in conjunction with a new profession designed to actually use them in more deep ways, such as a knight. I think it's more meaningful to have a full profession designed to use a mount, rather than just tack it onto a ranger (I'm not saying this won't work, I'm just saying it wouldn't have as many options as what an exclusive profession could have and use.)
but thank you so much for not saying "OMGZWTF I SAW MOUNTS IN WOW SO GW MUST HAEV THEM TOO!!1!1one!1!11one"

A lot of people seem to be really against the idea of mounts (this topic really has been done to death).
Well, the Stone Summit have mounts, so why not players?
Personally I have to agree with Magus - a dedicated profession (Knight or Cavalier) would be best, but your idea is at least not game-breaking.

Well they are against because we have map travel and so there is no much need of going from town A to town B by crossing the maps within then after we been there for the first time.
Another point is that if mounts are implemented nothing stops the players from racing the map avoiding combat, that is a good and a bad thing.
A mount expecific class would be bad and the reason is simply, if mounts are implemented that way that would mean such class would be far faster that the others so those players would have to stop and wait for the others to catch up and that is no fun.
I think mounts would be a fun idea but they cannot be connected to a special class (due to speed issues) and they cannot be anything but faster crossing of maps and a gold sink.

Yeah, this should be closed and referred to another of the dozen or so mount posts, but...
1) If the mount is killable, it unbalances PvE/PvP.
2) If the mount adds speed, it unbalances skills which increase or decrease movement speed.
3) If the mount can attack, it unbalances combat.
4) If the mount does none of these things it is just a status symbol and the devs shouldn't waste time on it.

Well, designing an entire new class, that will fit in with the existing classes, and not be at an advantage or disadvantage is a much harder and more time consuming task than just adding new mount spawns that rangers could tame. More classes are always nice, but this is a (relatively) quick, and balanced way to implement mounts for the people that want them.
although, new classes like a knight, in future expansions are an interesting idea

The other reason most people (including me) are against mounts were because they give an inherent speed bonus (speed is a stat just like health and energy), very game breaking. Some other ideas made them redundant, such as a way to show off wealth, which would be a waste of time to develop.
Drakon has good points about the speeding ahead of other players and the rushing past maps. I do, however, think it's possible (especially with Arenanet's innovation) to implement mounts in a way that could prevent these things. Perhaps a stamina bar similar to Diablo II? There are plenty of possibilities to alleviate the problems. But I am thinking of mounts to be used in more of a combat situation (rushing the casters, etc.) rather than a travel situation. I don't fully support mounts, but I do think that it is a possibility, especially with a profession since any new professions will have to be very different in order to not cover any common ground that the current 30 combinations don't already cover.

I'm surprised this is being discussed again, what with the numerous threads offering mount concepts in the past. Limiting mounts to only one class seems awfully imbalanced yet giving mounts to all classes is, as previously stated, a game breaker.

okay, that made me almost snort my drink through my nose.

mounts could be inplanted in the game.
but they should only be able on some of the maps some sort of grand plains or dense forest thats 60km wide if you knw what i mean.
there also need to come special missions for mounts so you can get used to them etc.
when you whant to use the mounts in the normal maps you should only be ably that they walk next to you so the running problem is solved.
hope this are some good ideas.
