Extra storage as a money sink?

I just thought of an idea. A lot of people are are asking for more storage right? What if... you could buy extra storage but it costs you (in game) gold every hour for every item stored in it?

What if? Well, then people would be able to hoard more, thereby keeping the number of rare/powerful/desireable items that *could* be in play in the world low since they'll be gathering dust in storage instead of 1) destroyed by being sold and balancing supply and demand at traders 2) becoming upgrade components through salvage 3) being traded to players who will make use of it.

This more or less just helps stagnate the economy and increase inflation since people can afford to have "keeper" items and "seller" items.

What do you gain by keeping an item in storage? The longer you keep it, the more gold you'll lose.

Because spending gold in game, doesn't make A.net gold in real life to cover the addition server storage for our items

Not that the storage is that much, but really the amount of space seems fine to me, people just need to stop hanging onto things, and get rid of them

Agreed. People are greedy, it's that simple. Having items circulate in-game keeps the game compelling to the general in-game population. Having items *not* circulate runs counter to the goals of ArenaNet. So, while more storage would be nice for us greedy humans I think it's probably better that we pay them more actual money to be carpetbagging greedhogs, since more money for them means a longer business lifetime for them and more game time for us.

Actually, if you start losing money from hoarding, won't that encourage circulation?

Anyway, firebat has a better reason why this might not be possible. Extra storage compounded over a lot of accounts means more costs for anet.

Anet is not hurting for money, and to ask us to add new characters to each expansion and then equip 12 heroes for each character and not provide some relief is ABSURD. They can take our $50 every 6 months for an expansion with new characters. This was relevent even back when this thread was fresh.

I agree. If space is such a concern.. I don't think anyone is asking for like 100 more slots. I think most would be happy with even just another row of slots in the storage box. I know that would still add up to alot of space, but come one. We have bought three full priced games already, and still suffer with a storage that was designed for 4 chars in one campaign. Yes, we got material storage, but we also got green items, heros and tons of other stuff since the launch of the game.

Plus, it can be another money sink, as mentioned. Make the additional spaces cost a good amount of gold (none of that hourly rental stuff).

No

I would be fine with paying 5K-10K per extra storage slot. Interest is hard to program, especially in a game as gigantic as GW. A down payment is good enough.

I have a feeling Faer will close this soon, probably with a remark like

What the hell are you smoking?
Me keeping 400 Gold items doesnt mean 400 less Gold items will be in game for other people......

Everything in Guildwars is seperate, me hunting the Rotscale 5million times and getting the bow 5 million times doesnt mean you will never get it cause i got it 5 million times, every instance is completly seperate if your not in my group my actions do not influence your world.

Farmers aside, I'm all for more dye and key storage. Maybe even something as advanced as a key ring in the inventory? Huh? Yeah? Huh?
