By having a really high one skill tree, you're going to be able to do more damage. As you progres through the game the monsters are going to be affected by likewise adjusted skill points. My other 3 skills consist of backfire (good at any level), chaos storm (decent aoe but i rarely use it) and res sig (no level effect).
