Couple of Ranger Questions

ok, u got me, i have never played before but am looking forward to the upcoming event. i have read around the boards but i cant seem to find answers so...

Does Strength Of Honor affect ranged at all?

Secondly, i have taken a look at several R/E builds. Question: w/o a zealous)sp?) or Oath Shot how does one regain energy? Even with expertise it seems like a constant drain on energy and the regen pips dont seem to cut it on their own. again, i have never played so i could be wrong...

and storm chaser... again i could be wrong but if i am not the focus fire/current enemy target, i just go without energy? or go looking for damage?

The second question i guess is more of a build/skill combo question.

Opps, just thought of one last thing. i have several builds/classes that i was going to try (and im sorry all questions relate to PVP). was going to level either a R/E or W/E so i could get an elemental weapon and conjure. some of the post refer to PVE chars giving items??? to PVP chars? So can i just level what i want and transfer the items? would you recommend just playing the game and perhaps buying/trading for the items? i have no idea if they are rare or common drops, but i do know i would like to try every build i got rattling around this little head of mine...

Strength of Honor...melee only ..so no it doesn't affect ranged attacks

Expertise and ranger regen.... Expertise will reduce the cost of all preps, attack skills, stances, glyphs, shouts, rituals (anything not classified as a spell/hex/enchantment)

the ranger's regen rate is 3 pips (1 = .33 per second..totaling 1 energy every 3 seconds),..between the reduced costs of your skills through expertise mastery and the regeneration rate of the ranger,..with a little bit of time management on your usage you shouldn't have any real problems.
As far as storm chaser?..Don't forget..there are "area of effect" spells that do elemental damage..you will gain from them if you are in the zone of effect.

Your PvP character can get SKILLS unlocked by having your PvE find them through questing and what not. The only way to get ITEMS for your PvP is to have your PvP find/trade them themself or have a really good friend you trust help you transfer something between them with you.

Important note : if you do transfer something..make sure you don't personalize the item beforehand..or your PvP character can NEVER use it.

appreciate the answers...

and if i misphrased my question i apologize. it was more along the lines of am i missing something? will the combination of skill x + skill y yeild decent energy regen...

the combo most ppl refer to is barrage + conjure (when it comes to R/Es)

if i take expertise to 12+ (for example) it drops the cost of barrage to 2, referencing the above post, without energy regen armor(if it exist, i dunno) i regen 1 every 3. seems like a losing battle...

and another website i forget had the bow time of the half moon at 1.33 but this one has the refire rate at 2.00 secs

so every 2 secs, i lose 2 but gain one every 3?

or is that why they put the conjure nerf in so it would no longer be spammable?

cause i thought that made barrage hot, the timer and the low energy?

again, tia

Now you are getting into Ensign's territory. Numbers and mathematical equations. You are dealing with casts, and aftercasts, character display effects.

The one thing I can tell you is...you can never infinitely spam your skills. It will just seem that way because you are learning (or have learned by play experience) to manage your times and your regenerations so that they, for the most part, coincide with each other.

And you are forgetting something...a ranger has 3 pips...that means one every second regerated..not 1 every 3.

Judges Insight works with ranged attacks - your bow.

Expertise on a 5 Energy skill - attribute 8 = 3.4 energy rounded too 3. Your energy cost is 3.

The next breaking point for Expertise to reduce it to two is 13. Yes , a lot.

And so fort and so on

a ranger typically runs with 3 pips and 25 energy, iirc.
3 pips gets you 1 en/sec. if you guesstimate that you can fire an arrow every 2 seconds, that means that you recharge 2 en between firing. if you boost your expertise up to 13, any attack skill that had a cost of 5 en will only cost you 2, meaning that you will regenerate the full cost of that skill by the time you are ready to fire your next arrow. even if you are running expertise at 8-12, the cost is only 3 en per shot, with recharge that net cost is only 1 en between shots so you could keep that up for a good while.
marksman's wager used to be THE skill for energy management, but was heavily nerfed. oath shot does not get you energy. you could always try melandru's resilience, althoug that skill is fairly situational as well. storm chaser with greater conflagration seems like it may work well, especially with drakescale armor. but on the whole, a ranger's energy management stems mainly from high expertise and efficient use of skills.
