Returning from its mid-life crisis just in time to celebrate its ruby (40th) anniversary, Fansite Friday can be found hosted this week here, at ANZGW. This edition covers a few topics - are good things still on the table for those who just want to spectate, or are they under the table and dreaming? Will two-hundred players ever be able to face off against one seemingly invincible Gwen? Has the budget for state funding in Tyria been reappropriated so that henchmen and pets could finally be sent to obediance school? Lastly - more character slots. Does it count if we say please - with sugar on top? |

Interesting answers.
I suspect that since third party software is already available for recording battles, it will be a while before it is "in game". (Same as including voice chat.)
A basic toggle of Offense / Defense should not be extremely difficult to implement. I suggest using the Charm Animal skill for this toggle.
With the noticeable improvement in AI since last Beta, I expect to be pleased with the future improvements.
With the flexibility of switching secondary profession and swapping out skills, having more than 4 character slots is not as critical as in some games. (imho)

I rather enjoyed this Fansite Friday, the questions were actually answered rather straight forward rather than be danced around. Some informative stuff there.

Yeah I think I've enjoyed this one the most, because of the type of questions/answers.

ANet has alot to write in compared to Valve and their "Soon" "that is undecided" "Yes. We will be implenting that feature"
It always so much more interesting to read Guild Wars interviews.

I don't really see the point of limiting it to 4 charcters... instead of like... 8 ? (all primaries, 2 slots for PVP char tests).
Not like it would change ANYTHING for ANET (don't tell me about storage costs...), but it will instead limit us in primary characters to use, having us create, delete and grind again more often than needed.
And you can't use mainly PVP chars either : you don't want to use PVP characters extensively (until you've unlocked all skills). As the XP you'll win in PVP will in that case not be able to be used to acquire new skills, as opposed as what an RPG character would do.
The only reason seems to force the people that don't want to be bothered too much, to buy 2 accounts. But even then, it will be impractical, due to the separate unlocking of runes/items on the 2 accounts...
Sounds like greed to me... :-/

I agree, 4 seems like an artificially low number. My minimum would be 6 (4 PvE and 2 PvP builds) but 8 would be nice...

Hey, as long as it's greater than 0 I am happy. I think 2 is a good minimum, so you can have a PvP and a PvE, or two styles, and more is always nice, but I have no complaint about 4 as a number. I wouldn't complain if they doubled it to 8 mind you, but it isn't needed. More than 30 would seem wasteful. So really, anywhere between 2 and 30 should work.

4 is plenty
i would not object to more but i am not whineing gimmie more
f it could be done for the same cost they would have done it from the start

It was a good Fansite Friday, I thought... but yeah, I don't think 6 characters is asking too much.

"We don’t support 50- or 100-member warring parties, because for the most part, a whole lot of strategy and skill flies out the window at high numbers."
I dislike the way the GW PR departments lets loose comments like this as if they are omniscient. (much better to say that the strategy and skills required for large scale battles are different to the ones Guild Wars wants to focus on, and that the technical requirements to do large battles justice are a hurdle at this point, and etc.. anything but implying Arena.Net has the final word on what does and does not constitute 'skill')
Otherwise, nice Fansite Friday.

Wouldn't mind having more character slots, but four will probably be enough for me anyway. I'd probably just use the extra two to make as insane (not necessarily in a good way) of builds as I possibly could. Too bad I'd have to wait for the new "chapter" to come out before I could do that...
Davion
I'm just glad they are going to address the henchmen/pets a little to make a solo-ists adventure a little more "manageable".

Most players would like to have more options, and it wouldn't hurt anyone anyway.
It's a simple matter of changing one variable and the character selection sreen, and maybe buy a set of raid drives.
If you see another possible reason for them to force us to delete and recreate characters, feel free to enlighten us (as ANET didn't...)

4 characters is fine imho.
How about that observer mode?? Man when that gets added I will be one happy cookie indeed. I know my guild will utilize it like crazy.
